  • As much as what he did is wrong, it's also not ideal if prisons are so badly managed the prisoners can attack each other.

He ended up doing jail time for his crime, as flawed as the justice system is due to lack of legal help access, inherent biases etc. I rather not see prison become an unofficial revenge system.

Though of course prison has its own mini society and rules so vigilante attacks on some types of prisoners are a risk. And maybe he just pissed off the wrong person.

  • Only the Malmaison Oxford

  • Any of you actually been in a prison?

I’ve visited about 10 jails and prisons in the US, LATAM, and UK. In equivalent security settings, UK facilities are usually better, but there are some outliers.

  • Went to a drinks reception for the opening of a new wing at Feltham YOI before the regulars moved in. I was a Y at the time so does that count?

    I have a little involvement with https://www.prisonersabroad.org.uk/

  • Not sure what that has to do with my point.

Prison should be the absolute last resort.

Many prisoners have mental health issues, trauma, low level education etc. and I think it's overused in the UK.

Some people have committed violent crimes that victims want ti be punished severely, some people are a danger to society and rehabilitation failed, but as a whole prison is expensive and often makes outcomes worse.

Been in prison? Now you can't get a job in many places....and so on.
