  • The notion of the rule of law and its application are far from the same thing.

    The rich man in his castle, the poor man at his gate, God made them high and lowly and ordered their estate (All things bright and beautiful).

    Do you really believe in equality under the law with no prejudice? I use prejudice in its original form. If so you are a little naive.

    In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread.

  • The poor tramp in his cardboard, the rich tramp in his yurt, the law sees them and equal and lets them both eat dirt....

    Unfortunately, Lord Tramp is more likely to know the judge or his family and have access to top quality legal representation. The law is wonderfully equal, but an analysis of the prison population suggests that its application is less so.
