But more seriously it will be interesting to see if I feel the need for clipless, I’ve felt secure on my Enduro bike thus far, but of course the point of a downhill bike is to go faster over more chunky terrain.

Back to waterproof trouser chat, turns out I have Endura Humvees, not Singletracks. However, if this isn't a great endorsement of them, I'm not sure what is.
Just got back from a ride in them, sat having a cup of tea and stupidly balanced my mug on my thigh while I answered a text. Obviously, the entire mug of boiling tea tipped over straight onto my groin. But the expected scalding to my bollocks never arrived. The sugary sweet contents just pooled on the surface of the trousers, DWR treatment going above and beyond what was ever asked or expected of it, and I simply stood up and poured it onto the floor and mopped it up. I will never stop doing stupid things, but I will now always wear waterproof trousers when balancing hot drinks near my knob.

Nice!
Wore my Humvee trousers at Glentress today, didn’t carry anything in the front pockets and that helped with the tightness. Had winter bib tights on under, the dwr coating send to have done pretty well though I have got a Mudhugger rear guard on so are wasn’t getting pummelled, matron!
New trails at Glentress are pretty bangin. Could have done without getting to them via most of the black, legs were pumping up so bad. Think it’s because I’ve been riding the gravel bike a lot so sitting down, legs aren’t used to standing up!

You need to stand at the bar in the pub more..
How busy was GT today? Keen to check out the new stuff.

I'm up there in April for a week, might try and check out the new stuff but the classics are so good that we may run out of time

Very.
It was alright though. Didn’t really feel people breathing down my neck or anything at all. I got caught amongst some people on the initial climb up from the carpark and there was a tiny bit of sitting about waiting for folk to go the second time I got to the top of the new descent line but my legs needed time to recover from the climb anyway!
Photo looking down the new stuff, it’s impressive to look at and hella fun, managed to land a fair few of the jumps on the downslope.

Bit of spam, sort! I’m selling this Pike/Rev/Judy DH fork. It worked perfectly at GT yesterday but there was some oil seeping from the compression adjuster again this morning. I can see it just knocking around my garage for a fair while before I find the time to do anything with it so offering it up for half of what I paid for it.

Potentially interested and I have the missing bits already on my hardtail. What travel is it and how does it ride? I’m after a trail/ peaks long day out bike
-
• #27613
It only has 111mm of travel but is not really a ‘down country’ bike: the suspension feels more than it is (with 130mm forks), it has a low bb like modern long/slack trail bikes and it feels incredibly rowdy and poppy going downhill. I’d say that makes it most suited to trail centres but I’ve been happy doing most things on it, albeit sometimes quite slowly, it is quite burly

This and the 156 version were very forward thinking when they came out. Assume it's 27.5?
Edit: 29", makes sense. This was the time when folks weren't sure that 29" would come to trail and DH, but there was this weird (or maybe valid?) assumption that 29" was equivalent to another 20mm or so travel on a similar 26" or 27.5" setup.
Imagine if you could transport a 'downcountry' 120mm bike from 2023 to 2014 - minds would be blown.

Technically, this is single speed

Hah. I bet every cyclist with a bit of engineering fantasy has thought about this type of thing.
I wonder if the productisable version of it is a CVT with some electrical torque / power / speed sensing dohikee in command.

Classic! One of the first short-travel/progressive geo bikes wasn't it?

The bike equivalent of DAF variomatic.

yes, exactly, it has aged incredibly well, feels like you could charge through anything on it. You could pick on its lack of rear boost and the PF bb but on the trail my only real gripe is the bottle cage mount on the underside of the frame. It being so gangly there are options to get round this but I just bought a bottle with a cap over the mouth piece. I can include that with it!

Just found these as stocking fillers for the kids but also clearly ordered a few for myself. Get some mint sauce on your bike

Just snapped this up on Gumtree for my daughter:
Vintage steel 26" Kona Hahanna with a Salsa suspension corrected rigid fork and some 8 speed 1x hodgepodge.
Decals and pedals are glow in the dark.
