  • Is anyone after a strat neck - 7.25 radius, WD fender licensed jobbie that someone’s given a relic finish to assume nitro, nice checking on the headstock. I bought it like this for a JM body I picked up but was never going to be ideal.

  • Also curious about what Mrs EB's book is about...

Did anyone jump on the Notaklön band wagon? Or indeed the NotNotaklön...

  • Oof!

  • a hundred quid? pm me if interested and I'll send over some more pics.

i have a 80's Tokai strat with strong Gilmore vibes which i'll be selling for a bargainous price if you really want to give #idontneedanotherstrat the two fingers

  • I really don't need another strat tho', I haven't played either of mine for months. ⛳

Someone should jump on that! What year is the Tokai? I do love an old Tokai.

  • 1984 I seem to remember, someone had put a Floyd rose on it which I took off when I found a traditional period replacement (no trem arm), changed tuners/scratch plate and it has two bare knuckles Irish tour pups and a fender in the bridge I forget which. Still have the original bits (apart from the Floyd Rose) and a Wilkinson bridge with push in trem which works well on it. Also will be selling a 2015 MIJ Jaguar with Fender pure vintage 65 pickups.

  • 2015 MIJ Jaguar

Will be very interested in that. I had a 2003 MIJ (I think they called them CIJ at the time) and I absolutely loved it. Really regret letting it go.

  • They're so good, I think mine is a 2013, my favourite guitar.

  • It's a 'Classic 60's Jaguar' really good condition a few small nicks, no fret wear, I had the pickups anyway but they're meant to be a decent upgrade over the ones that come on the MIJ's, and these are the specs (sorry link from the Fender serial number lookup doesn't work). It's lovely.

Drop me a line if you're interested

edit, i think this is the actual guitar (ignore the price)

  • How much is the strat out of interest?

  • That Jag is lush

  • Beautiful eh?!

  • This thread was very helpful with recommendations when I bought my 12yo daughter a Squire Mustang for Christmas last year. Thought you might like to know that at her request, we went to the local Arts Centre Sunday afternoon "jam session" yesterday and she got up on stage and played All Along the Watchtower with the house band! ... I will probably be asking for guitar upgrade recommendations here soon ;)

  • This is amazing. Such a great age to do your first gig, it has the potential to be properly life changing. You did a great thing for that kid!

  • Awesome! the local blues jam session was 100% the way my playing progression accelerated back when I was 15, plus just sort of general musicianship. Nothing quite like being thrown on stage with some grumpy old rocker tutting cos they got 'the kid'

  • I was proud of her for going up there - she went with a older mate who didn't fancy it. Also, the grumpy old blokes were actually very friendly and supportive.

  • This is my guitar teacher who is currently playing with The Wedding Present. Just back from Spain and in Camden Town this evening. Back down to earth with a bump next Tuesday when I’m scratching away in my next lesson.

  • Massive failure on my part: I've done some serious damage to my bass amp. I witnessed some magic smoke being let out during practice and the speaker now gives me a tinny, crackly whisper.

Having examined the internals, I can't see any damage on the power amp board (burn marks or blown caps) which leads me to believe I've melted the speaker coil. When I measured the resistance across the speaker, it was roughly 1/10th of the impedance (though my knowledge of electronics isn't sufficient to tell me if I would or wouldn't expect them to be equal).

If I've blown the speaker, am I likely to have damaged the power amp? The pre-amp still works (i.e. plugging headphones in works). How can I test this? I don't own an oscilloscope.

Has anyone ever replaced a blown speaker successfully? Can I just buy a 4ohm, 15" speaker and just bolt that sucker on?

How did I do this? I had it cranked to 3/10 on the master volume. Perhaps my multi-effects unit is sending too much signal to the amp or has too high an impedance or something?

  • A 4 ohm speaker should read around 3.5, so 0.4 sounds wrong. Did you disconnect the wires to the amp when you measured?

My understanding is if a solid state amp has a short circuit on its output it’s possible to fry the power section, so if the speaker failed somehow and shorted, that could have taken the amp with it. But if it’s making a quiet sound now, may just be the speaker went randomly and a new one would fix it.

  • Thanks. Yes speaker was disconnected when I measured that. Might as well try a new speaker. Would be silly to fling the thing out for something quite fixable.

  • Just picked up a mini-strat for my daughter there. Any setup tips?

I've heard the stock strings with the shorter scale can be a pain to keep in tune. I've got some heavier gauge strings kicking about, is it worth fitting those? Also, just realised (quite happily) that it's got a fixed bridge.

  • Hi all, me again... any recommendations for an effects pedal to get for my daughter for Christmas? thanks
