Had a look at that, thanks for the recommend... looks like they specialise more in bags though.
So I ordered one of these wide racks, and it's awaiting collection in the post office:

the max load on it is 18kg... and the battery (roughly 11 inches cubed) I am going to be carrying on it is 17kg.
Then I came across this thing:

which would sit on top of my existing Tortec (max load 35kg)
which do you think would offer better support for the battery??
