Ah OK, you must not remove crank bolt, but undo it a bit....

Though as I’ve recently found out, if it’s really tight on the taper and runs off-centre like that ^ it snaps the head off the bolt. Ideally use a sacrificial bolt with a centre divot drilled into it!

And some people complain about cotter pins being difficult!

There's also a way to lever it off via the fixed BB cup which we used BITD but the visual memory evades me.....

use a sacrificial bolt
Definitely this.
I've got a centring plug somewhere but I wasn't going to spend half an hour looking for it 🙂

You can probably use a ball joint splitter for that, but there's a good chance of doing some serious damage.

Posted on the tandem thread, but I suspect this may well be pre 1950s

That’s quite a lot of faith being placed on the braking capability lol

Those cantis were used on tandems since God knows when, they do work...but as this is set for TT who needs brakes ? 😁

Sheriff star hub?
-

Possibly, can't really see. Parts are worth a bit I guess, but would be pity to brake it...

Went to pick up the Gillott frame from Varhona today. As the frame has already been modified in the past I decided to get two newer style dropouts fitted which will hopefully be stronger- they are later Campag style ones as opposed to period correct gran sport dropouts. The original 'Stallard' dropouts are not available anymore I obviously, and the chances of finding some on eBay seemed slim so this seemed the best option to get a good match and a strong rear triangle.
Just need to straighten out the Gran Sport rear mech now, which also took a hammering in the 'incident'.

Also, if anyone has a ready built alloy rimmed 27 1 1/4 rear wheel they are willing to sell for a reasonable price, ideally with a 50s hub, let me know, the rim got a flat spot bent into it as well so need to replace the wheel

Yeah also looking for a pair of wheels for my Gillott actually ...
-
• #5094
I thought I seen that frame before somewhere - was there last w/end dropping off three frames ...Mario had few on display, some proper belters that he's planning to sell.

No alloy rims, but do have Dunlop Specials Lightweight wheelset from my own Gillott for sale. The set plus an additional rim plus inners/tyres and freewheel comes all in a pack if anyone is interested

Yeh, saw the stuff Mario's workshop, some really nice frame. Some lovely stuff downstairs in Winston's workshop too, casually lent around!,

Hi! It has been more then a year ago that I bought of this set from @Foreigner65. At the moment I am not certain if I can keep it due to some renovation forced upon me which might led to let go of my workshop and space.
However, I still rather interested in a proper build.
Since its almost impossible to get certain parts over here, I wonder if one of you might have a Sturmey Archer ASC as hub (36°) or build as a wheel (700c) willing to sell and ship to Germany.
Cheers

Ready for the Coming 1924 Season
I've posted this bike in the 'Current Projects' thread (Last Build), but it doesn't seem to have gathered much interest there, so perhaps it's better here.
It still needs a bit of fine tuning, but it does ride quite well.
What do you think?

I love it. A proper roadster, Looks like it will be a riot to ride.
I particularly like the way you have found a set of modern looking handlebars that follows the contour of the rod brake levers.
Was it easy to set up the brakes.? -

lol
Does look lovely though and chapeau for you not only putting it together but also planning to add hundreds of miles to it :)
Also, what are the handlebars?
Does this mock up explain it?
