At least 3 guys I went to high school with died before their 20th bday because they each thought they were fast and furious. Giving a young man keys to a car and sending them on their way isn’t a decision that should be made lightly.
I’m sure the families in this case did not make any light decisions. Their loss and grief are ineffable.
*Also not implying the young men in question did anything wrong or reckless.
Some of my mates drove like lunatics when we were that age. I remember rally jumping a hump back bridge as a passenger in a Ford Fiesta, he just floored it on the approach, no warning or encouragement. Scary to consider possible consequences looking back now.
