The above ^ and also how could call it Alpinist without ? :)

Nah I like this treatment. Much better than the magnifier they've had on the modern Alipinists. Similar to the way B&R do it which gets some love (well, not disgust) around these parts.

Feel like it might have been a "please put this on, Mr Craig" at the last minute and it wasn't properly sized, rather than something he'd been given to wear in advance.
Radial numbers would probably have been a bit too explicitly Alaska Project, as much as I'd like to see it.

I really like the way they've sharpened up the numerals and markers on this. The slightly fuzzy def on the OG and modern takes on it really trigger me given the high quality finish on the rest of it.

Yeah, I don't mind it at all on this and I think it often works best on busier watches, like chronographs, or dials that have arabic numerals.
It's just a GMT version of the existing modern Alpinist, if you like that and want a GMT it's a winner. I'm here for Seiko making GMT versions of everything now. A 38mm version of the SKX GMT would be very welcome.

If it were three years ago I'd buy one. It looks great and addresses what I felt was an annoying shortcoming of these - and the sizing works for me.
I'm not gonna buy any middlingly priced watches now though. Just not a winning move. If it was £700, sure, take my money. £1,290 is too much. Only for folks treating these as fashion watches who don't care if they lose £800 when they ditch it.

Yeah. The watch head looks really good from the pics I've seen, but the bracelet still looks like it's from a £400 watch unfortunately. And it is still fundamentally a 6R inside.

Slightly different surroundings for my Speedy tonight, cold damp footy training spectating as my usual motivation to use the dead time to go jogging has been on the wane since dark/cold set in.
I like that original green alpinist, was always tempted but don’t know if I’d end up wearing it much…

Does anyone have a reputable source for a good quality replacement battery for my casioak?
-
• #75186
I use the aptly named https://www.watchbattery.co.uk/
It's one of those where the website is so dated that you know it must be good. -

This seemed like a very good price for a polar 16570 with nice creamy patina on the lume

Maybe an indicator how the market looks?
Really good pictures in that ad?!?
Really show what you need to see.
If everyone selling watches online managed this I'd have more watches I think -

Subdial have a couple cheaper than that both in excellent condition full sets. Prices have dropped by over 10% in the last few months. I'm trying to be patient but if I start seeing nice examples starting with a 6 I might take a deep breath

Those aren’t cheaper? The one on the bay went for £5600 so I reckon you better take a deep breath. I have a 16570 (black) that I might end up selling when I get my act together

Fuck that was a bargain. That link took me to one for 8750. Just need to not get sidetracked by any Black Friday deals get Christmas and Januarys tax bill out of the way and I'll start sniffing around properly. I'm not expecting a sudden price spike up the new year
