Just to update the 'what to do with dead engined car' question I put on here previously - the best scrap quote I received was £300, but following a mate's recommendation (and people suggested similar on here via ebay) I put an ad up on gumtree as 'for spares or repair £1k', was inundated with messages, ending up selling to the first chap who came round for £800. Could possibly have got more, but everyone was going to look to chip and I'd already told myself I would take £800 so was happy with the entire experience.

Nice one! Have you gone for the Civic?

Yes, and absolutely delighted with the decision after some long-ish drives over the weekend. Any recommendations for helping a big puppy get over his dislike of the car, however, will be much appreciated. I assume there's no trick and it's just a case of patient reinforcement, small local trips with happy outcomes and making as many happy associations with the car as possible. But, also hoping that there is a trick and someone can share it.

A little treat to get in the car. Short drive, happy endings (as you say) and repeat. Have the windows open a bit so the dog can smell interesting stuff. My puppy's second trip in the car was to the vets. It turned out okay as he loved every minute of the appointment. I have a small bed which remains in the car and he settles on that and waits to see what happens next.

Yeah, we currently have full-bodied resistance to getting into the car and a highly-stressed panting once in it. I think maybe he actually gets car-sick as there have been a few sicky incidents, but he's managed longish journeys recently without sick so maybe not that. He palpably hates it and feel awful getting him in against his will. He seems to go back to his normal sunny self pretty soon out the other side and the last two trips (riverside getaway and my folks' place just outside Oxford) he's LOVED once he got there....

If you have the time. Get him in the car, eventually, leave the engine off and sit for a while then get him out and go and chuck a ball about or similar. Just build it up slowly so that not every time in the car is the same but keep the stress low. Even if you only drive around the block and nothing bad happens that is a positive. My old dog was two and a half and wasn't car friendly but he wasn't stupid and knew quickly that the car led to good things. Also, if it works out, feed him after your drive or training never before. He's less likely to throw up on an empty stomach and he'll associate the car/walk with food.

Ours freaks out and starts shedding fur as soon as he's in the car unless he's in a crate in which case he doesn't mind at all. If you have a crate and the car can accommodate it maybe give it a try.

Interesting - could try it, but would love him not to need a crate to tolerate the car. But as he currently hates it, certainly worth trying. Cheers.

Patience and treats.

Understandable, ours is very small so it was easier than trying to change his behaviour. We didn't have him as a puppy though and don't use the car much anyway.

Dolly has just started to pull away from the car when we go to put her in, I lift her into and out of the boot. To stop her jumping out and running off as soon as the boot opens. Once she’s in thought she falls asleep as soon as we start moving and only wakes up when we get out of the car. I guess we’re just lucky, but the first few trips were late at night so maybe that has something to do with it?
She knows I’m talking about her.

^ looks amazing!
I'm just back from a 1000km road trip around Morocco which included two days of driving through the Sahara desert, in what I guess it the modern equivalent of that LJ80, the Jimny.

I very nearly bought a Jimny a couple of months back, couldn't justify the price so I got something else!

This is what would have happened if Detroit had bought Jaguar in the 70s. And now I am sad that we do not live in that alternate timeline.

@ChasnotRobert a modified volvo 2.0L turbo
Guessing it has a supercharger + turbocharged like my Polestar. In standard form the 4 cylinder is 300Bhp, on mine (fettled by Polestar / Cyan) it's 367Bhp and this is rocking 414Hp - I'd like to know where they squeezed the extra from..
