  • Another option.

I use remote-control switches for my turbo trainer setup.

    £33 for 5 switches

  • I can't really tell if these helped. I think I got more improvement from bookcases with stuff on them behind me but I do like the angle up right at my ears.

  • Can I save you some time and introduce the end game monitor for you :-

  • Does anyone here have any experience of the Roksan Attessa Streaming / Integrated Amplifier? Looks pretty, and spec seems up to date. In our new home, Mrs HM throughly disapproves of the heavy-duty coils of signal cable in the five-box Naim system that's been pumping up the volume for the last 20 or so years.

  • Don’t do it, get a streamer like a bluesound node or something similar and keep the green glowing boxes.
If it’s a 72/140 then sell it to me and buy the Roksan.

  • Streamer/integrated amps aren’t a great idea imo.
Better to keep those two (or three) things separate and just get a Wiim pro+ and either a fancy ingrated or small pre + power. Maybe keep a Naim power amp (assuming that’s one of the 5)?

  • You'll get less bass if you pull those speakers out. You'll have some doubling up of the bass from the rear fitting port.

Alternatively - frozen sausages in your ports.

  • This is a bit backwards - removing room modes is the point of room treatment, whereas eq and software can only solve the issue at one specific position.

  • Depends on the size of the room. Yes they can't be lessened, but they'll be present, and obviously in smaller rooms they're more in the audible range/range of the speakers.

If the frequency analysis is anything to go by the mode isn't actually that low. How much room treatment realistically to people put in their rooms without dropping 10s of thousands on their set up first.

  • Hah well yeah also backwards - spending 5 figures on audio kit to then plonk in a bare-walled room, with maybe a tasteful rug or two!

  • I've got wall rug, you know! Probs not £5ks worth of kit though

  • Yeah, I just lined them up at the back edge of the table for symmetry's sake.

I've not decided if I'm going to cut the iso pads down or not yet. Longer term I'll swap these with my other set of smaller monitors so there's no point cutting yet but when they're cut I'll have a bit more room to move them forward. Not much, mind.

  • Sounds like all your problems could be solved with headphones 😉

  • I have various sets of headphones. I don't like using them.

Also, you don't cover these glorious locks up...

  • You'll get less bass if you pull those speakers out.

Fine. I've dragged them out. Also turned the bass down a bit more.

  • All sorted?

  • Every little helps!

(whatever the fucking fuckity fuck that means)

I've got a sound clip and a video showing it spinning. Everything works and I even gave the stylus a quick clean this morning. And it sounds the better for it.

    Any questions let me know.

  • I have the Bluesound Node and it works well with the Naim kit. One of the attractions of the Roksan Attessa is that it integrates BlueOS, which I quite like. Otoh, I don't want to have to replace the Naim CD player or the Naim Stageline MC box, which are obviously optimized to work with Naim amplification and signal cabling. The obvious choice is the Naim Uniti. Present amp/preamp/ps are from the 5 series as I recall.

  • thanks - i'm checking it out

  • after some consideration i decided this is a bit over my requirements - the deck will be going to my eldest in student digs in Leeds.

    it's a lovely thing though - glws.

  • The main amp I'm using (not a great one but it has optical in which is useful) has started dropping out recently, which can be fixed by cranking it up loud until the speakers kick in then drop back to normal level.

Any explanation as to why that might be happening and why that fixes it?

  • Do the speakers have those brackets on the terminals for optional bi-amping? My tannoys had similar symptoms where woofer would cut out till tapped or given a good volume crank.

  • No problem.
I understand completely. Thanks for letting me know

  • Pretty sure not but I'll check, ta.
