• Besides a headset, the main missing component to make this into a rideable bike was a crankset. Everything else I had as spare part or could've borrowed from the Raleigh R.I.P. (currently resting in pieces).
I am usually very much a silver finishing kit guy but somehow it was clear to me early on that this bike would embrace black and let the frame be the centrepiece.
Scouting for cranks I felt like there was exactly one right choice.
Square taper, black, sleek, simple and affordable. Period correct? As if I cared but yes, I believe.
That's Shimano Deore LX cranks and I knew just the right guy who might have some.
Mirkinger is a local bike guy and he helped me out with replacing some old Deore cranks before. He invited me to go through his stash of stuff and next to the cranks I was looking for I also scored a set of Deore XT BR M739 v-brakes (if you know you know).
But the real treasure I uncovered was this set of purple cantis and matching NOS QR releases.
If you follow this thread you know I can hardly say no to some anodised aluminium. I was able to vividly see those brakes on my bike and at that point, I knew I wouldn't be able to get around a handful of purple accents to round things off.
