  • oh yeah, Giant are having a huge closeout - you might be able to find a 2022 Trance / TranceX surprisingly affordably.

  • 32t ring arrived, let me know if anyone wants a 34, new in bag.

  • I do wish this ring was black.

  • Definitely would prefer black. SRAM X-Sync mount for Shimano 12 speed HG ring suggestions please?

  • Sharpie?

  • I'm looking for a cheap, decent boost HG rear wheel - or hub if anyone has anything.

  • Any advice on 2nd hand 29 boost wheelsets for XC trail riding, not racing. Budget friendly and easy maintenance are priorities really.

    Ta

  • North Shore Billet make a HG12 tooth profile ring with sram 3 bolt mounting. It’s what I use with my axs/shimano hybrid.
    Comes in black.

  • The Nukeproof horizon wheels are great value for money. I bought a second hand set and have been really impressed with the overall quality compared to wheels I’ve spent ten times more on.
They aren’t especially light but they are on sale at CRC/wiggle just now.

  • Nice one. I'll keep an eye out, I'm in no rush, as it will be for spring/summer.

  • I picked up a pair of XC Wide Hunt from FB for £100 and they seem pretty good so far.

  • I took a shock apart, and fitted a volume spacer. This feels like a very big step for me, proper grown up bike fettling.

  • Respect. The Shockwiz was like “sir, with all politeness, have you considered a volume spacer?” and I was like “go fuck yourself shitbag”.

  • 🤷
Apparently the stock Cotic tune uses 2 big spacers, and my shock (set for a lighter rider) had none.

  • Likely the spacers are a good idea but I am not minded to pull my fork apart to install them. I take the cowards way.

  • What fork?

I’ve added them on my Fox and checked them on my Rock Shox, it’s really easy.

  • There’s “really easy” and “really easy but if I do this wrong I will fuck up a £700 fork” and frankly that’s a level of pressure I don’t need in bike maintenance (where I routinely fuck things up)

  • It’s literally, let the pressure out, unscrew cap, attach spacer(s), screw it back on and re-pressurise.

You’d have to be trying pretty hard to cock it up.

My RS fork uses a cassette lockring tool to undo the cap, the Fox needs a spanner, I bought one off eBay for like, £5 or £10.

  • What's the story with the waist closure on these? Not seen this style before, is it a MTB thing?

  • You’d have to be trying pretty hard to cock it up.

Or not very hard at all.

  • Still getting thumb pain from stupid MTB shifter. Thinking, if I move it way further inboard, towards the stem, I'll not have to cock my hand back so far to shift to easier gears.

I don't actually know which movement is causing the pain, but it's right thumb only so I have to assume shifting.

Also, don't know how much adjustment I've actually got without also moving the brake lever too far away. I did fit a separate mount instead of the I-whasit so I had more adjustment. Will have to have a play.

Other suggestions? Di2 seems like an obvious choice as does singlespeed (which ain't happening, soz) :)

  • Sram axs

The new version without the mech hanger is amazing, reportedly nearly indestructible and somehow shifts better under load than soft pedalling.

  • In the extremely unlikely event that I installed SRAM on one of my bikes, are you talking about the electronic version or the cable version? Eagle AXS, GX AXS, too many axisessesesess of evil?
    Ah, they're all erectronic?

1300 quid for the cheapest one? Ouch. I guess DI2 price is probably simillarly silly.

  • Yep the electric version. It’s fucking amazing. And the mount for the shifter is super adjustable.

  • You will need a bike frame with the UDH mech hanger. To install the new axs you remove the UDH and the mech goes directly onto the frame. Watch some reviews for it.
