Jazzmatazz 1 is an absolute legendary record. Always a go-to when I don't know what else to listen to.
Binged all 4 episodes of the BBC 'Fight The Power' doc that was shown a while back last night. Felt like I didn't really learn a huge amount on the music side, but the connections to the politics side of things was really interesting. Well worth a watch if you haven't already.

I am not sure if it is still available, but 1xtra did a really good series called 'gone too soon' years ago and there was a guru episode. A bizarre story but worth a listen.
I may have a recording somewhere if it isn't available because I used to send them to a mate of mine in India who couldn't access them.

I went to Gangstarr Brixton gig Hard to Earn tour in 94 when I was 16. Very good.

The new REN Album is full of bangers.

My weirdest flex is adoring DJ Premier whilst also wishing anybody other than Guru was the MC to the extent I pretty much only ever listened to Gangstarr instrumentals.
Guru was mediocre but was elevated by the Primo production; the Jazzmatazz stuff was bobbins and his solo stuff bombed. -

Seeing The Pharcyde tonight! They seem pretty tight judging by this recent footage

Nice, let us know what they were like. Have fun!

Quality. Where are they playing? Missed this if they have any dates up North.

Edinburgh Liquid Room. Bit odd, low key venue for sure

The Pharcyde were great, some of the best MCing I've seen. They were only on for 60 mins though, which was a bit spicy as the tickets were £40 with booking fee

Welcome to the world of live hip hop. You are lucky they turned up at all and doubly lucky it started on time (if it did).
I binned off rap gigs decades ago but maybe the veteran guys are taking it seriously now there's no money in music sales :)
Equally, dodgy promoters negotiating club PA rates with artists and selling tickets for "live shows" have played a part in the shambles of US rap tours in the UK.

New Aesop Rock sounds good from what I've heard so far - just put in a pre-order for the vinyl.

Haha, fuck, that limited vinyl edition is something else 😅
The regular one is super nice as well..Really appreciate this guy / his team pushing out quality stuff like that; was actually listening to the Spirit World album again just yesterday, and apart from the music obviously this is always nice to pull out of the crate as it's such a wicked package..

Really getting into the few tracks they have released from the Granuja and Jam Baxter album, here is another. Can't wait for the album, have pre-ordered vinyl.

Late to this, but do agree, even on Hard to Earn, his voice really drags at some points and sounds quite odd. Step in the Arena though I think still stands up really well.

Can anyone recommend any good covers of hip hop tracks please?
Enjoy... <3
I love Guru. Hearing his voice and flow is pure nectar to my ears.
That Jazzmatazz (vol.1) album is an all-time favourite of mine.
