Guardian reading/tofu shagging thread post incoming: Any suggestions for a decent greengrocer that'll be open on my way home from work between 5 and 6? Ideally immediately next to the waterlink way in Ladywell/Brockley/Forest Hill/Sydenham etc. We eat a shitload of fruit and veg and seeing the bin fill up with supermarket plastic after every meal is extremely depressing.

The variety of tomatoes on offer is worth the trip by itself.

Pre packed salads comes up to £10 a kg at Tesco.
A £4 half kilo of tomatoes of any colour you can imagine is pretty good deal for me.
Rough cut, grate some garlic, drizzle of olive oil and some fresh basil, any Italian nona would approve!

Marvellous Greens and Beans in Brockley was what sprang to mind to me too. They used to be open until 7 pm most evening.

It's a bit too far out of the way home to pop to on my way home unfortunately. I know that if it adds more than a few minutes to the journey, I'll just end up being lazy and going to Tesco! Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll check out the tomato array next time I'm in the area, I'm a sucker for a boujie tomato.
@andyfallsoff Marvellous Greens and Beans sounds more or less ideal (apart from the shit name), thanks. I'll pop by when I need a top up! There are a few Turkish grocers near me that are excellent for most stuff but the fresh produce is usually a bit ropey. Are the ones in Catford decent?

I'd definitely try there (greens+beans) first. I've found the catford Turkish shops ok - Metro Food store probably the best one? Good range of stuff and freshness has always seemed ok when I've been - but don't use them daily so I guess I could have been lucky...

Thanks, will check them out!

seeing the bin fill up with supermarket plastic
Bag it all up in ANOTHER plastic bag and take it to your local Tesco (might have to be biggish but might not) to dispose of in their soft plastics recycling trolley thing.

TFC Bromley rd next to Turkuaz?

I had no idea that was an option! Does that apply to the film on top of fruit punnets etc?
-
• #119463
Will give them a go as well, thanks.

Weird it's not promoted by the supermarkets. I believe it's any type of plastic that you can scrunch up. Maybe not foil-lined stuff though. So essentially no hard plastics.

Really good to know. Will definitely start doing that.

MegaSaver in Penge? it closes at 8. my favourite shop and very good value, we buy all our Polish bread/Romanian Jam/spices/olives/load of other things from around Europe/asia that are way cheaper than posh deli’s.

You can put in crisp packets so stuff that looks like foil but scrunches and bounces back is ok.

I need to move some logs from one end of a path to another. Is it more efficient to carry them and place them in the wood box, or throw them then walk down and put them in? So, same amount of walking, but the log either gets carried or thrown.
Or does conservation of energy mean it's all the same?

Not a physicist, but have you got a wheelbarrow?
-
• #119471
A half arsed guess based on physics would make me think that throwing them will be less efficient, but only by a tiny amount that is pretty inconsequential.
Can you get a few more people involved to form a line to pass them along person to person?
-
• #119472
My intuition says throwing them will require more force and is harder to maintain proper technique.. will be more likely to cause injury
-
• #119473
Throwing them means more bending down and picking them up. I wouldn't want to do that.
-
• #119474
You’d probably have more fun throwing them, which would make it seem easier

Burn them in situ
Am I right in thinking that most of the cheapo (sub £100) projectors will be shit? What kind of specs are a minimum to look at for something usable, for watching TV/films.
