  • just how onerous is it ? i want to start using my local velodrome. ive ridden fixed for years and bike everywhere - so i need to get accredited , how long will this take

  • Which track is it?

  • im orderering another pre cursa (ive got two already) but theyve got brakes - im getting a brand new brakeless one and leaving it at the velodrome

  • assuming i can get accredited fairly quickly will it take me long to get up to speed, ive ridden fixed for years and am quite fit. i dont want to compete at all just spin around the track a few times each week.

Up to speed? Do you mean your fitness?

Track accreditation is definitely like a driving licence, ie getting it doesn’t make you good.

That said, if all you want to do is bowl around on the blue, there’s not much to it.

Understanding how a fixed gear bike works is probably the easiest thing about track accreditation. Like, folk that have never ridden fixed will be at the same level as those that ride fixed everyday after about ten minutes.

Where people struggle is with the safety stuff like holding a line, observation, communication, speed control.

Listen to what you’re being told, ask questions if you’re unsure of anything and you’ll be reet. Once you’ve passed, find some regulars to take you under their wing if need be.
