  • Maybe back to a month by month Eurosport for me then as there's no discovery+ here and, in any case, the rest of the content looks shit for 14 quid a month even if I can be arsed finding a way to sign up for it. Question is if they have a functioning TV app these days

  • So if you have no sky/virgin/bt account and no desire to where can you subscribe to race coverage? either monthly which for me is spring classics to Lombardia or a yearly pass?

    edit:

  • What's annoying is my 40 euro sub for GCN+ (and Eurosport Player before it) is now more than 2x the price

  • And D+ has adverts too!

  • I'm gonna say tiz cycling will have a good year.

  • What's really ironic is I spent a good chunk of this year arguing with them about terrible coverage, technical issues and demanding a refund, which they refused, only for them to do it themselves after I've accepted the fact it wasn't going to happen

  • That's true. So I could only subscribe to the three months with Grand Tours in them should I wish to, I suppose

  • I think you can download the app and subscribe to specific channels.

    Maybe need to doublecheck that...

  • yes, £6.99 a month on the app - £7 for the classics, £7 for TdF, etc...

  • What does this mean for me? I’m currently subscribed to Eurosport directly and my renewal states it’s still £39.99 for next year.

  • this is Carlton Kirby's revenge and you all deserve it.

  • I suspect a month before it expires you be given Discovery+ subscription options instead. Eurosport isn't standalone anymore if your country has Discovery+ available.

As INRNG just posted it's weird Discovery will just let 1000s of GCN+ subs just disappear without any attempt at retention

"You'd think they, as in Warner/Discovery, would try to secure the large base of subscribers rather than "thanks and hope you find your way to us elsewhere"?

  • If you watch their video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9xBGH-ISFU

Says GCN+ will still exist in Europe, so could you not fire up a VPN and use a foreign GCN+ version? Then all you lot sooking about the British commentators can shut up until Warner Bros squash that service too.

  • A good opportunity to brush up on a European language of your choice.

Doesn't Belgian terrestrial TV have racing for free anyway? Would it be possible to VPN Belgian Tele?

We can all converse in the Flemish mother tongue of cycling.

  • European language of your choice.

Dutch people speaking English is my favourite. :)

  • Doesn't Belgian terrestrial TV have racing for free anyway? Would it be possible to VPN Belgian Tele?

I've not tried this because I've not had to. Sky, Virgin, Eurosport, GCN+ were my gotos.

  • Says GCN+ will still exist in Europe

    It doesn't say that

  • "In Europe, GCN+ subscribers can continue to watch live cycling"

What did I miss? That you can continue to watch it via another platform?

  • The words that came directly after it

  • I was forcibly moved from Eurosport to Discovery+ last year when my auto renewal failed. The racing content is identical to Eurosport including ad free streams, but since Discovery+ has also absorbed bt sport, its sometimes quite difficult to find sports available on my 6.99 tier vs the far more expensive ex-bt sport tier that includes champions league football etc. If I were to indulge in conspiracies I could imagine content previously available on the 6.99 tier slowly moving across to the 'premium' level.

  • So are they going to move subscribers over to other services or do these services already exist? I don't know what the fuck Discovery+ is.

  • That's the thing, they are just just cutting everyone with GCN+ subs loose and not even trying to retain them and you have to find your own way to the other options which are a Discovery+ subscription for streaming only or add to your TV package.

To confuse things GCN the Youtube channel and website continues but they are also up for sale per a report from September.

  • If I can't find racing coverage at a similar price point I'll just move to dodgy streams or wait for the highlights on Youtube.

  • Gotcha. The way he said it I thought it meant it was working in EU so they'll keep it and remove all the non-EU peeps. But they're cutting the WHOLE GCN+ and everyone has to find live coverage some other way.

Dodgy streams and youtube highlights here we come.

  • I guess I'll just go back to Eurosport like I was doing before GCN+ anyway. I just really hope they've improved it since I was last there, and that I can still get English commentary.
