I'll have you know I've never got sealant on my carpet. Just oil and grease and wine and beer and all manner of food.
Stans.
Expensive bottle with carbon strands hosed everywhere? No thanks

You're just going to include the jizz in that rather than list it separately? I mean, it's technically valid, but a bit disingenuous 🙂

It might be edible but it's not available in Co-Op (at least not my Co-Op) so it doesn't count. :P

I've some Schwalbe Nobby Nic (Addix Performance) 29er tyres from a few years ago in my parts bin. Was about to set them up tubeless but notice there's no "TLR" or "TLE" on the tyre. Does that mean they're not tubeless compatible? Navigating Schwalbe's website doesn't seem to provide the answer.

Probably, you might find tubed only written on them but embossed

Yep, heard back from Schwalbe and they say not compatible. Will need to run tubes which is a bore.

Held until I got home, sealed when I pulled the pin

TL/DR: Don't. It is absolutely awful - the worst bicycle product I've bought in years.
In full:
installing it is a pain, because it clogs valve cores. So you have to partly take the tyre off. If you then don't get the tyre to seal first time, the sealant will have gone jelly-like, and is ruined. You then need to clean out the tyre and start again.Next, it doesn't work very well. It didn't seal the most basic of holes, and when I got the tyre off to put a tube in, I saw why: most of the carbon fibres had formed into little stalactites on the inside of the tyre, rather than dispersing.
I say 'most' of the carbon fibres, because the remainder clog your valves, and topping up tyre pressure becomes difficult, then impossible. I had to replace both valve cores in less than a month.
I think I threw out the stuff I have left. If I didn't and it's still somewhere in the garage, you can have it for postage if you really want to try it, but trust me - you're better off with pretty much any other sealant.
I'm glad that's off my chest :-)

Had the same experience.
OKO is the best experience I’ve had as it isn’t sticky. You can wipe tyres clean. No idea how it works.

Much obliged guv. I hadn’t got round to doing anything about yet. By the time I do we will probably all be floating about on hoverboards anyway.

Stans race it's the best I've used. That said it dries quick and clog valves so maybe only for experienced users
-
• #5538
Seconded. It's more fiddly to use as you can't inject via the valve so need to be able to add into the tyre before you seat the second bead. But best results I've had in terms of sealing cuts

Any ideas on whether Treavail tyres are hookless rim compatible?
Same question with WTB tyres?
Cheers ta.
X posting. -

I've not had any problems, been running rutlands on hunt hookless rims for many months now

i got a new carbon wheelset and I'm trying to put on a used pair of CX tyres that have always worked well on another wheelset.
the back tyre didn't work first time, i had to put an extra wrap of tape on it and now it seems to have seated on the rim. i haven't put sealant in it yet so it isn't holding air for long but i think it will be ok.
for the front, i thought i'd just go straight in an add a second layer of tape. i'm just using a track pump and i can only get both beads mounted about half way round and they don't want to budge past that.
next i decided to put in an inner tube in the hope of getting one of the beads mounted all the way round to then have a better chance of mounting both sides (once i've taken out the inner tube) but i've pumped it up to 60psi (i think max for the rim is 55) and the tyre is hard but wonky - it hasn't mounted the bead properly on either side.
what should i try next? remove the layer of tape that may not have been necessary in the first place? i thought of adding sealant and trying again but i'd be surprised if sealant will push it onto the bead if an inner tube can't.

Have you tried a short ride with it? That usually beds it in, in my experience.
-
• #5544
i've gone for a very short spin now and it may have helped a little but the tyre is still very wonky. the bead seems high in some places and there are gaps to the side of the rim in other places. it definitely wouldn't hold air without a tube as it is.
i probably won't have time to look at it again today so i'll either take it for a slightly longer spin tomorrow or (more likely) take off the extra tape that i probably shouldn't have added.

What lubricant are you using?
-
• #5546
i'm not using any. what would you recommend? soapy water?
-

what would you recommend? soapy water?
Either water with a tiny bit of soap/detergent to get it to wet the surface, or Schwalbe Easy Fit if you want to splash out rather than about

ok, thanks. i'll give that a go (definitely the soapy water option)

Not sure I'd ride it to get it seated, ride it to stop it leaking once seated yeah.
Seems fair.
