Right, I've got a recurring issue that's bothering with me on my S6L with the derailleur shifter.
Some time back I got rid of the stock (pre-2017) 2s shifter as it kept shifting when I went over something rough, and am running a remote lockout switch instead. It's been fine, mostly.
However, the last time I self-serviced or cleaned my bike (or might have just fixed a puncture) I noticed that shifting into the big sprocket was a struggle. Everything seemed fine - the dog-leg wasn't overly tight and the cable was new and moving freely. I just had to tighten the chain tensioner as it was a bit lose - problem solved.
I'm in that same scenario again after cleaning my bike. Yet I've made sure not to make the same mistake of having play in my chain tensioner. Shifting into the lower cog is worse than it's ever been. Two things I've noticed though:
- If I add cable tension at the barrel adjuster, shifting improves, but the adjuster is out quite considerably, so I'm considering getting new cables as I'm due anyway.
- The only thing that I've change is to revert back to my 13t/16t cassette, which isn't badly worn but did see more usage than newer 12t/16t that was sold to me buy mistake and has been on the bike. I much prefer the slightly lower gearing though.
Any tips before I take a look at this again tonight? I'm gonna inspect and maybe swap the inner gear cable or just add tension on the existing one, but not at the barrel adjuster this time.

There's a small hex bolt on the part which is located on the chain stay. Loosen that off, slide it along and clean out any crap which is in there then reassemble. Usually rectifies any shifting issues.

Tried out the new BromptonMan. Seems a nice guy, he knows his Brompton’s for sure. Would recommend.

If I wanted pink cable outers- can you get a kit from somewhere or should I just order lengths of outer and cut them to length? Jagwire or ebay specials?

Already cleaned, and relubed and it was moving pretty freely, but will check again.
@Jackytwoshoes, you can normally buy kits where cables are cut to the right length, but a few times shops have given me the wrong ones, as there are quite a few (e.g. all the different bar shapes, pre and post 2017 shifters and brakes).
I'm going to cut my own too. TheBromptonMan has a table of the lengths you need: https://www.thebromptonman.com/cable-lengths.html#/

Can do it for you in Stoke Newington if that’s any easier? Think it’s about £52 offhand.

My brompton was stolen if anyone spots it for sale
It's a mishmash of used parts from various bromptons (I work for brompton so have access to goodies), crucially has a newer headtube welded on so that it can accept T-line parts.
If spotted it would be good to get it back there ISN't another one like it.
T-line fork, with pink and blue geometric shapes painted all over it.

Banging!
Also, I’ve want to loose the wheels on the fold as I always catch my shoe/trousers and those little stands look just the ticket. -

Anyone swapped bars from the mid/hi bars to the flat bar. Assuming you will need to get a gear service to trim cables and cable routing? Any mechanic recommendations for this job? Ldn based

Thought that looked like a new kinetics build. Seen Ben has been testing various 18” and 20” MTBrompton parts of Insta which looked quite fun!

Depending on the year I think the stem is also different so it’s not as simple as a straight swap. I did it and felt the reach was very compromised, the S stem (flat bag stem) has more curvature so the flat bars are further away vs the riser bar stems which assume you have the handlebars tilted forward slightly, so are less curved.

Coming back to this as I'll be back in the UK for Christmas:
I currently have a Fidlock water bottle mount on the stem, which is extremely useful whilst also being extremely uggers as it's the one attached using rubber straps.
Is there anyone in the UK from whom I could purchase a modified stem that has water bottle bosses, painted and ready to fit, that I could collect whilst I'm here and then take home in my suitcase to SG?

Me.
“painted”
Not so much me. I can paint it but it ain’t going to be a pro job that’ll match the rest of the bike.
