not sure why i didn't think of this before, but i've got a bar of fjallraven greenland wax so i'm going to have a go at waxing my suede bmx vans.
should hopefully offer a bit of protection anyway -

It's worth a punt! I used to dowse my slip-ons with 3M waterproofing spray, but now all the fun chemicals are banned it just doesn't work like it used to.

Any recommendations for bib tights with pockets? Ideally cheaper than Rapha's £270 ones
-

Just get yourself some polartec powerstrech tights and wear them over your summer bibs. Montane and Rab have some

Victory Chimp ones are decent for the price

Yes and no. Breathes well, but also keeps you warm.

Needs a 0-5C rating, not everyone lives in the mountains (unfortunately)

Looked at Albion, will check out Victory Chimp too. Sportful Supergiara also seem alright, any first hand experience here?

Galibier worth a shout at a good price. No experience but I have the roubaix cargo shorts which were nice the other week when it was cold

Oh the temp rating is a bit high although… I wouldn’t be wearing even the shorts in todays weather, let alone 14 degrees

I mean I wear them from -10C to 10C happily.
The Endura thermoroubaix were good. Not as warm as powerstrech. I took the pad out as used as tights. See if they've just tights.

Almost totally brill but only for short folks. Love the pad. Shoulder straps could be literally a whole foot longer and still stretch to fit.

I heard this feedback before. Luckily my phat bottom means I need a large size which gives me hope the straps could be slightly longer.

I don't have the pocketed ones, but really like my La Passione tights (and indeed the bibs). As a brand they seem to fly under the radar but are good quality & fit, often can be picked up on sale, and without too garish branding

Any recommendations for waterproof and warm overshoes that work well with MTB/gravel shoes on the road? (I use spd pedals) Had a pair of Endura luminite II which were surprisingly waterproof but have finally shredded around the toe and heel after 3 seasons.

i asked the same question one page back - general consensus, ditch the overshoes, buy some winter shoes.
-
• #1293
Had my eye on these for a while but even with Welcome10 discount, pricey..

Covers always start disintegrate wear it comes into contact with the ground. I just wear gum boots with flat pedals/strahps.

I've got some Altura Thermostretch overshoes that I like quite a bit. They're neoprene so not completely waterproof but keep my feet dry as long as it's not chucking it down. They keep you nice and warm even if you do get wet though. I've not tried proper winter boots to compare but combined with a warm set of socks I've been happy commuting with them all year round!
I broke my foot a few years ago and really struggle to find cycling shoes that are comfortable so will probably keep using my summer shoes all year round with these.Having said that, has anyone used the Giro Blaze winter shoes? Giro seem to suit my gammy foot so I'd be tempted by those if any.

The answer here is always Planet X

any goss on Spatz 'BurnR' vs Albion Burner? coincidence? scandal? nothing?

Is the castelli alpha too warm? Looking for a warm winter jacket for audax and cold commutes. On discount at wiggle atm
-
• #1299
Jacket or jersey?
The jersey is good for 5 - 12 degrees say. Layering up underneath will let you go lower, and unzip the inner for a few degrees higher.
Don’t know about the jacket, but afaik it’s warmer than the jersey so maybe 0-10 type conditions

The alpha ros 2 jacket is the one I'm looking at. Cold windy days seem to be the norm and so was looking at something to cover long days or very cold ones.
@se1derful Big up the Vans MTE range. Wore them wondering around the high alps last year during ski season. Thinsulate lining means I can only really use them for some of the year due to the toastiness.
