If you're just after a rim brake wheelset, why not try used?

Just seen that Wiggle/CRC have Prime carbon rim brake wheels for £300/pair. If you're not commuting might be worth a stretch? I

RS100.

I saw those but noted they are (a lot) heavier than the alloy set they have for sale at £200/pair. Is there a meaningful advantage to carbon that would make one choose carbon over alloy?
(I've never owned carbon wheels.)

It's not the material, it's what you do with it. The Doyenne 50 carbon is likely to gain more aerodynamically over the Attaquer than you can make up by the metal wheels being half a pound lighter. If you're not racing, it doesn't matter, but 50mm deep crabon fribe wheels definitely look much cooler, so there's that 🙂

Thanks. So given my general lack of talent/fitness/speed/racing its just the looking cool aspect to consider ...

Which OTP budget friendly disc wheelsets have easily interchangeable end caps? Current bike is QR but if i'm investing in better wheels i'd like to be able to switch them onto a TA frame if that ever happens. Spotted Hunt and Vel so far show the ability to do that, have no idea about DT Swiss, Prime etc. Preference would be to go to Arkane when i have a bit more dough but i've seen a few cheap Black Friday deals and have no idea about compatibility. 6 bolt a bonus as i have the Rotors.

Have you looked on wiggle?

Yeah these seem to fit the bill, no idea how they might compare to something like Bitex on Kinlin which is where my mind was heading.

I think most wheels have swappable end caps now, as a standard axle size and width has not quite been settled on (it'll likely be 12 mm axle, 142 mm spacing for road). DT Swiss definitely do, as does Hope, but not sure on Prime.

With that you’re weighing up readily available and maybe not always serviceable (hubs might bends) vs time to build and should be serviceable.
Those wheels are something I’m looking at if they have qr end caps included.

In The Box:
4 spare spokes & nipples
Tubeless Valves
QR Skewers
10 speed spacer
15mm thru axle end caps
QR end capsComes with all the above and i believe hubs are novatec so bearings can be replaced, i've just ordered a pair.

May have to consider moving on my Arkane rim brake wheelset as they're not getting used. Silver/purple combo wont be to everyones tastes but what would be a sensible forum price be for DCR Flirt, Hope RS4, Sapim race built by Arkane with less than 200 outdoor miles on them (maybe a few hundred on the turbo)?

You'll probably have to swap the entire rear axle. QR disc it's usually 135mm and thru axle seems settled at 142mm for road and gravel.
That's what I had to do, some other hubs could be different -
• #8966
Yeah could be. Not entirely sure what's going to show up but i can see they do 142x12mm axles for less than £10 so not too worried.

Hunt wheels have swappable end caps.
For instance i have a pair of 4 seasons for sale with a set of both Qr and and thru axle end caps -
• #8968
Gone for the Prime's as they conveniently matched what i had left in the sales piggy bank. Hopefully my new 24 hours to think about it rule will pay off.

I’m currently looking at this option, but the only thing holding me back is the width - almost 28mm wide is kinda extreme for a rim brake bike.
-

28mm
For the Prime rim brake? I've gone with the disc but yeah that sounds excessive, you'd be much better off with my 24mm flirt rims...

I have identified your problem!

QR and TA and BOOST

Mine just showed up, very impressed so far, qr caps included and a push fit install without tools. Includes spare spokes and looks like bearings can be easily replaced.

How heavy are they?
Cheers. Inflation is expensive.
