  • I mentioned that to a friend once and he said "What? How can you not prefer Aliens? There are more Aliens! And you get to see them for so much more of the time!". Me: "Yeah, that's why."

  • I recall my 3yr old niece laughing when the baby alien popped out of the guys stomach

  • Exactly, less is more.

  • When anyone asks what's the scariest movie I've seen, it's probably Aliens.

I was too young to watch it the first time. Damn it's a great (series of) film(s).

Got the anniversary boxed set somewhere.

  • I saw that at 6. Definitely traumatic. As was Jaws at around the same age, still uncomfortable in deep water. My parents thought the minimum advised age was patronizing, but in retrospect I don't agree.

  • At 6 i was still struggling to process the boy from space, not sure what i would of got out of watching Alien/s.

Very different but equally excellent IMHO (Alien vs Aliens, not boy from space).

  • The navigator....

  • But how about showing a 6 year old the sharknado, or the meg?

  • I'm surprised by the negative reactions to Killers of the Flower Moon. Yes it is long, but so is War and Peace. Not one scene is redundant. The coda is extraordinary, and so unexpected.

  • Just seen Sumotherhood really enjoyed it, there is a lot going on in a short space of time and yeah all over the place but good for it. Bit of fun with some serious bits, messages as well as well of plenty of other themes/things as well.

A good independant modern British film.

  • Tried Tenet tonight. Couldn’t get into it. Watched Witness, and now Se7en. God this film is so insanely brilliant.

  • Finally saw Killers of the Flower Moon this afternoon, it didn’t disappoint, it didn’t drag and it made full use of its lengthy running time. Some fabulous acting too, I understand Leo isn't everyone’s favourite in these parts but I thought he did a good job. Definitely a movie to see on the big screen, no distractions and immerse yourself into the story.

  • Meh. I looked at my watch an hour and a half into KotFM and discovered that only 40 minutes had passed. I'm fairly sure Scorsese could have lost about two hours without adversely affecting the movie.

(And it's a shame that for all the Osage characters on-screen, most of them are just victims without real agency. Might as well have had red shirts.)

  • I agree with you, it's not a drag and Leo is not bad as a dumb semi baddie. Although I would also advise people to wait for it to hit netflix. 3,5 hours without intermezzo is not for everyone. The atmosphere in the theater turned a little impatient with about an hour to go. Although it also didn't help that some noisy drunk couple entered at that point.

  • Seen the killer last night, The start I felt dragged a little but I knew that was them setting the story but once into it, it was great.

The only other thing I felt was a bit weird was the fight scene, it was great but the way it was shot was a bit weird.

  • All the Light We Cannot See has got some really terrible reviews, I thought the Guardian was spot on, but all that being said it was still quite a strangely enjoyable watch.

    Spoiler Alerts etc.

  • Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans "hmm, this isn't a very Herzog-y Herzog film", immediately cuts to a bizarre, extreme close up, shaky shot of an alligator. "There he is".

  • I've never watched that particular nugget. I'm assuming that Cage just managed to out munch Harvey in the scenery department. I was shushed in the cinema laughing at the original.

  • Yeah, he's clearly having a very good time. Worth a watch I'd say, pretty weird and disjointed but it sort of works. Very different to the Abel Ferrara original from what I can remember of that.

  • Long overdue but got to Licorice Pizza last night. Not one of PTAs best but still a very delightful film. Will watch again some time

  • I watched this for the first time over a few nights. Really enjoyed the start and got gradually less interested as it went on.

  • I enjoyed it a lot. Agreed, not his best though. He's made it hard for himself by knocking out so many stone cold bangers.

  • Watched the Killer last night. Looks and sounds stunning as you'd expect from Fincher and Reznor. Fassbender is good, great cameo from Tilda Swinton. Nowhere near his best though, storyline was predictable and doesn't really go anywhere

  • The fight scene was pretty ridiculous alright. My wife was giving out that it felt sped up. It was almost in total darkness so hard to figure out what was going on
