does anyone have explanation on the near instant seatbelt release once the taxiing stops
For small airports where there will be a single passport control person, and few taxis, this kinda makes sense TBH.
Large airports though, absolutely zero sense... Just doesn't get you any advantage

I remember reading about The Who doing Acid for the first time on a flight back from Australia. It didn't go well 😬

Many people wearing masks on the plane? I am flying long haul in a few weeks and am not sure if I am going to wear one or not
-
• #15606
To be fair, I had a really, really good time the day before. It would have been nice if the acid had worn off before flying home but overall I'd say it was a net positive.

In economy on the way out, only me.
In first on the way back, two people including me.
But generally, no one is masking any longer

In the same vein does anyone have explanation on the near instant seatbelt release once the taxiing stops and stand in the aisle for 5mins til the stairs/skyway comes meaning no one can reach their overhead luggage?
A lot of the time it's airlines and their shitty "optimised" transfer times so you need to get off the plane and run like Kipchoge at the Berlin marathon to make your next flight (unless the airline has mugged you off with a bus to the terminal, in which case the joke's on you). A lot of the time it's just people being dicks though.

Flew CPH-NYC a few weeks ago, 2-3 masking on the whole plane

Slightly concerned about catching COVID on the way and ruining the trip (happened to someone we know last year).
Randomly though I had a vaccination invite last week so am going Monday to have that. Slight peace of mind, I know it is still possible to get it.
Last time we flew we were the only ones on the flight with masks (this was just after our friends had a trip ruined by COVID). -

a good old applaud once the tyres have hit the ground
Landed at Bristol airport and someone shouted 'cheers drive'* from the back row.
*Standard Bristolian sign off when exiting a bus.

I hear ya. I think the flight itself is fairly safe as the air is circulated and filtered in a plane (don't take my word for it though) but the queuing at the airport def had me thinking. I had to take a day off a few days after I got back being super tired. Slept for 18 hours that day. Dunno if it was travel stress and jetlag catching up or actual covid. Only took me a day to shake it so no big deal either way.

the air is circulated and filtered in a plane
I remember hearing about a documentary that was meant to come out in March 2000 where an airline industry insider uncovered the outsized incidence of cancer and chronic respiratory ailments among airline crews due to exposure to hydrocarbons. Iirc, they said the air is circulated through the engines and filtered, but the exhaust and grease off-gassing traces from the engine aren’t removed. I recall an interviewer and the documentary producer agreeing it was a very common airplane smell, ‘like dirty socks’.

Houston airport has entered the chat. 1 border agent for the private flights, maybe 4 agents for the airliners.
Best to have a pick up prearranged.

I had 40 mins to get off the plane, get monorail to a different terminal, through security and to the gate. Had to run the whole way (apart from monorail). Same on the way back.

Really? Sounds a bit over the top, no?
When I flew to India ages ago they "sanitized" the cabin by opening spray cans with whatever "cleaning stuff" in. Smelled like bathroom detergent. I can't see that being a good thing to inhale on a regular basis

Why are you/do people clap when plains land.
The praising God is amusing to as God has not left a Dingle plane in the air.
They still have the bar, at least they did on the dreamliner I was on yesterday. Was having fun ordering drinks not on the menu and seeing whether they could make them. They did an ok espresso martini which I was impressed with.
