+1 for not really bothering with waterproofing. I got absolutely drenched on a 13 mile long run yesterday but, y'know, once you're wet, you're wet. But it wasn't too cold so that was ok. If it's cold and wet I might go for a wind-resistant/vaguely water-repelling top layer.

I wear a base layer vest, tshirt & arm warmers in the rain. Maybe tights if I'm feeling a bit cold.
I do have a coat i got from Soar, and an adidas one, but my wife uses them nowadays.
Obviously if it is really cold and wet I won't bother going out

Decathlon gilet for me - it’s not waterproof, more wind proof, but the extra layer and wind proofness gives a layer of warmth if it’s both and cold
I’m not sure a true waterproof jacket is needed for anything beyond hills and mountains

Another vote for not really bothering with waterproofs
If it’s cold then I’ll add a base layer
If it’s wet then I’ll just get wet
If it’s cold and wet then I’ll turbo -

I've a castelli shakedry that I wear if it's cold and absolutely bucketing down. I managed to get one years ago half price. Wear it on the bike and running. Bone dry and no boil in the bag (once the temp is under 8 degrees or so).

As others have said base layer of its raining. Maybe gloves bc that can keep hands a little warmer or a buff

I do have an arcteryx Norman windshield jacket which I think is great

Argh, £75 now 😒
Just bagged one for £15 😛

Nice.
And at that price I'll snaffle both a L and an XL just in case the sizing is odd (plus I'm aiming to lose 25kg in the next year).

Bargain!

Wooosh!
I wore mine today in the rain for 45 mins and it was as useful as a flannel.
Still kept the wind off and doesn't get to hot which is nice, and for £15 that's such a bargain. Might get another as a spare...

Imagine paying £150 😄
How does it size? I normally wear Small in most running tops, but they only had Med left... -

Yeah I'd be disappointed for £150. But happy for the £35 I paid, even just as an extra layer that's easily packable.
Sizing I find ok. I've got a large, 6ft, 38" chest, 33" waist. It's a nice fitted cut, but still a bit of room, it's a good length too, considering it's dhb.

Any recommendations on trail shoes? Been running in ASICS novablast and metaspeed sky if that means anything? There are a few hiking trails near me and I just want something multi purpose trail to get off the road occasionally. Hoka speedgoat 5 comes up in many searches - anything else worth considering, ideally with a good Black Friday discount?

I like Saucony Peregrine. They're somewhere between a normal road shoe and a Mud Claw type thing. I use them for lots of runs where it's a few km of pavement/roads until I get onto trails.
Obviously not great for deep mud.

I've speedgoats among others. They're good, if the trail is pretty smooth. I wouldn't want to rock hop in them. Grip is pretty good, if rocks and dry. I use them for fire trails and well made hiking trail runs. I have aportiva Akasha too which have bigger lugs and might be better for all round/wet. (you're in Ireland right).
I'd go to a shop and try.

I have a pair of Saucony Peregrines too, and agree they are great for everything but deep mud.

On jackets, if anyone's looking for a good winter jacket, I really recommend the OMM sonic smock.
Super light, packs insanely small, doesn't over heat and keeps the wind off. Not waterproof, but that's fine.
Not that bad at £70 I don't think.
Oh hi!
I've never bothered with waterproof running jackets, mainly because I sweat so much it kind of becomes pointless. Therefore I've only ever bothered with windproof jackets, with the theory being that they're likely lighter and a little more ventilated than a waterproof.
I almost, almost went out in my goretex cycling jacket yesterday, but the rain eased and I actually only wore the windproof jacket when stopped for 30mins on a social run.
