Trek giving them extra hard Paddington Bear Stares
Yeah, cos Trek were definitely the first people in the world ever to cantilever the top tube out behind the seat stay junction

So what are the best chinese rims for rim brake now? I Use CSC wheels and they’re ok, but have dt 240 hubs I’d like to build wheels on.

Those Aliexpress 'INGRID' parts are lovely, cannot fault them, just over a week for delivery too.

Has anyone who's tried Shimano brake pads from AliX survived to tell the tale?
-
• #11407
Galfer is cheap and seemingly well reviewed, and not a knock off

Somewhat bewildered by their range, is there a particular compound you're referring to? The blue road ones seem on a par with Shimano in terms of price (£15-£20 a pair)

uberbike also seem to have restocked their finned road disc pads (went OOS for ages over covid). they come in two parts (the finned backplate is separate) so makes it cheaper when replacing the pad insert... think i'll be going back to them when i need pads next
-
• #11410
They look good, thanks. Wonder if there's less actual compound since there needs to be space for two backing plates (one for the fins and one for the pad)?
-
• #11411
the backing plates are actually somewhat thin and slot together. i don't think there is a huge difference in amount of pad

Anyone used Ali-Express chainrings? There are a lot of Shimano-compatible ones starting for not much.
I've ordered a set of these Stone sub-compact ones (the 46-32 option, not entirely clear what the washer / axle adjust means) - to go with my Magene power meter.

I was surprised how quick my last order came too.
I do some work in the parcels industry and discovered why the other day: Alibaba now operates its own flights from Europe to China. Clearly they are getting serious about building up their sales in Europe - big threat to local retailers.
-

Makes sense, the items flew through shipping and customs from start to finish.
-
• #11415
I use chain rings from China all the time. No real difference to branded competition to be honest. All the fancy chain ramps and such are just minor improvements. A chain ring will take several thousand kms anyway to wear out.

Little while since I’ve had carbon rim brake rims. How is the performance of say, light bicycle rims in the wet?
-
• #11417
Haven't taken them out recently in the wet so cannot really chime in. What pads are you using? I recollect a big difference between (forgot what brand) blue pads and the SwissStop.
In dry conditions they are ok, smidge worse compared to my Oxic or Kinlin rims but they are my only carbon rim brake set nowdays, so cannot really compare.

Used both the LB pads and Black Prince pads. Basically, that bike doesn't go out in heavy rain. I think it's a function of the grooves wearing out though rather than just shitty rims.

I wonder if you know of any non-genuine Oakley's glass replacements?
Wondering if you got the sunglassfix.com ones or others in the end?
I specifically want quality photochromatic lenses for my real Holbrooks, as I have photosensitivity.
Oakley don't do them, and I don't really want to wear my photochromic mirrored Radars off bike, in case I am mistaken for a cyberpunk cosplayer. -

No, I ended up buying a genuine replacement that was at a price similar to any reputable alternatives.
I want to get Farsport handlebars, but the shipping for the official site is prohibitive. Are there any alternative solid shops?

OSPW for 16 quid anyone? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004821649118.html?channel=twinner What will go wrong? There must be a reason why they cost £500 from Ceramicspeed. There's a bloke on Reddit who's bought one for his dream bike.
-
• #11424
Many reasons, but one would be that the ones you link use steel bearings.

If you’re looking for ceramic I wouldn’t bother. But if you’re looking for better speed change and stable winding, you should go for it.
