• Still gathering other parts but this is being dropped off with a local wheel builder today. Plan is to use some nice wide Fratelli rims with a silver Hope hub in the rear.

  • very cool!

  • Looks great, ideas for when mine eventually cracks. Would really like thru axles aswell.

I think the khaki would look good, but then I like the bronzey colour mine came as. (Satin orange or something I think it's called).

  • yaya - i bloody love this thread. Awol is looking great. what a great job. Look forward to seeing some more updates / trips

  • Wow can't wait to see this painted and built up

  • hell yeah! proper excited for this, I'd vote for khaki

  • I am happy to use my cad model to mock up some colours for you if you feel undecided. I am pretty unsure about my own as well tbh.

No matter what you can not go wrong with earth tones tho

  • Feels like this thread is the place to be. Gonna be a nice bike!

  • I’m leaning that way too especially because the bags for this bike will be in this nice dark green Ecopak fabric which I made a small ride pouch from as a tester over Christmas. However, I sat with the physical RAL classic colour book lately and the similar tones in there didn’t quite fit. I would undoubtedly find a good colour in the RAL effect palette but I think they would be special orders for most powder-coaters.

  • I kind of have a love and hate relationship with Awols. I used to own one and never liked it but then I see so many cool Awol builds and feel like I just did it wrong.

Really excited about how this is going to unfold (haha).
My vote is for a bronze finish.

  • It took way longer than anticipated but frame and forks have been powdercoated and I have some first pics. Colour I settled one was 'Dark Bronze II' from Prismatic powders, it normally appears pretty dark with a stain finish but really shines in the light. Excited to get the frame back and get it built up. Still have the black finishing kit from previously but I think a mix of black and silver could be nice.

  • That's amazing, looks like cabinet hardware finish in a good way. I imagine it'll look incredible in some decent sunlight.

Black with some silver could look great. What are you thinking?

  • Cranks will be these silver Cannondale SI with a black chanring

  • I am currently thinking silver Salsa Cowchippers:

  • Have been trying to hunt down a 2nd hand alloy/Ti seatpost with set back and this style of clamp, as used by Moots, Van Nicholas etc. before they all moved to the more modern wedge style: But I need to check the fit on a new saddle and my current non-descript black seatpost before commiting

  • I think those cannondale crank arms look great in silver, because they are rounded behind the axle

How about headset and stem/ spacers? Matching stem to seatpost?

  • Yeh headset is fairly easy because it’s a drop in affair so really only the dust cover to choose. Stem wise I would like something slim and not too boxy and modern. Possibly something in steel like Nitto UI-12 threadless but hard to find 2nd hand, let alone in the right length too.

  • In the meantime might just find something more like a Ritchey classic in silver.

  • Mythical beast, almost impossible to find secondhand, blue lug do get them in, sim works Rhonda is a pricey version. What size would you be looking for? The Ritchey is really nice, slim and suits those spacers (testers spacers are a good OD match too), but the surface finish is quite milky.

  • There are boatloads of old steel ATB stems on ebay, that is if the angle and length are anything you're after. You could get it coated in the frame color with all the other bits in silver.

I DIYed a stem, on old frame and spacers for the other half over summer, still need to get a headset for that build unfortunately.

  • How long do you need the seat post. I have a shorter than 250mm Zoom steel seat post and perhaps a matching Nitto stem... :)

Alternatively there's something Shogun seat posts on German eBay for no money and they look mega swag as well.
Zoom style seat posts are on my wishlist of products to make in the future!

  • Ah cool, I’ll have to check how much exposed post I have to know if the 250mm is long enough because I typically buy longer posts for the ‘just in case’ factor. I hadn’t heard of Shogun, thanks!

What length is the Nitto stem?

  • Might be a 100mm I think

  • Ah I probably need a 70-80mm unfortunately.
