Chopping on the plane of the blade edge is how scissors work.

I’m a leftie for knives, most aren’t a problem. Some mention asymmetric handle, typically most full tang western handle styles are ambidextrous.
Octagonal Japanese handles are usually ambidextrous. What kind of knife are you after?

Umbrella when it’s raining, and umbrella when it’s sunny.

I’m looking for a nikiri for a Christmas present. Japanese style preferably for under £100, does anyone have one that they’d recommend?

It’s not the aesthetic I’m after but it’s for cutting veg not looking nice so that’s definitely an option. And Damascus too

Some Japanese blades are single bevel so there tend to be left and right handed single bevel knives.
Most knives are double bevel so they are not chiral.

Reminds me I need to go to loon Fung and photo the knives....
Or wander back to the Asian supermarket and buy the £10 quid knife and see how good it is.
Maybe we should meet up and compare knives for the oddest pub meet

Just get the £17 Amazon knife. It’s a step above most knives you can pick up for £10-15 at an Asian superstore.
Unless you manage to luck into an old stock CCK cleaver for not much money. Unlikely now because they are famously over inflated in price compared to quality.

Might want to get a bigger chopping board for that!!

Just picked up the exact same knife as a gift, also fancied a different aesthetic but prefer something they're more likely to use all the time

Not a fan of buying knives with out feeling them.
Ended up buying the £10 knife from Sunlight supermarket on the seven sisters road. Nice and comes with operating instructions.
Went passed the hing yip oriental supermarket on Holloway road and here is there knife selection

I suppose you didn’t consider the Amazon return policy?
Hope the cleaver works well for you though!

Not an Amazon fan. Si try not to use them. Also does the Amazon knife come with a user manual ;)
It has also drawn first blood as it is bloody sharp
