  • Just finishing up hollow knight, any recommendations further on this vein? (I mainly play on switch)

  • I didn't jump on the RGB30 wave but it looks like the 1:1 screen was a success, which means there will be other alternatives out there soon from more reputable companies. I think I'll wait for that.

Still very happy with my miyoo mini, especially now it can also do NDS! Sold the Miyoo Mini+ and the Rg351p I had

  • Yep, it’s amazing.

I’m one level from 100% completion - the “Last Last level”.
Feels like souls game the last level.

  • Yoku’s Island Express

    Or

    Celeste

  • I was in two minds as well, but it’s ace. Genuinely.

Dreamcast isn’t 100% but it’s 90% there. JSR and Crazy Taxi work fine. Ikaruga is fine.

PSP heats up the CPU so Outrun 2006/SP/whatever is a bit choppy but will work enough for a quick play.

If another company jumps on I’ll gladly buy their better one, but tbh if this thing had triggers and the better CPU it would be perfect.

Oh and yea, Celeste on Pico-8 is infuriatingly addictive too.

  • Oh I'm not at 100%, I'm crap at the special world levels at the moment so might take a while

  • I’ll take it if you’re willing to post. I’m out and about right now but dm me your details and I’ll sort the money once I’m back

  • Selling the RG35XX, since I’m happy with the RGB30 for my uses.

I put it on fbm for £60 collected, because it’s as-new with screen protector fitted, and the additional 3D-print grips for it.

They’re selling for up to £50 (without grip) on the auction site, as I guess some people don’t want to buy from China.

Will do a forum price for anyone who wants it.

  • I'm rattling through it without even trying, no super hard secret bits to look forward to?

  • I've started playing Lies of P cos it's on gamepass. There's some annoying times when you get stuck in a stun loop but otherwise I'm really enjoying it. It's a great "take" on a Souls game, not quite a straight rip off.

  • Started playing the new modern warfare campaign... pretty much what you'd expect. Not unenjoyable tho and they brought back the AC130 gunship level which is never a terrible one.

  • Inside is brilliant, and I’m halfway through Gris, which is very pretty. Both short indie games.

  • I absolutely adored gaming as a teenager - got very into games like the original Call of Duty and then things like Team Fortress 2 and Fallout 3. It was always on the PC, though. I never had a games console.

My wife loves a lot of the old Sega and Nintendo games, and so I'm thinking of getting her a Nintendo Switch and a game bundle (perhaps Zelda) for Christmas.

Just wanted to check with those who know more about games and consoles than me that this isn't a terrible idea for a reason I haven't thought about? There's no new version of the Switch about to be released? Zelda isn't a terrible game?

  • Why not just buy the RG35 off of @pdlouche - it'll come preloaded with all the OG Sega / Nintendo games at a fraction of the cost.

Switch 2 will be next year, maybe in time for Christmas.

  • Casually interested.
Whats the deal with games? do you need to load ROMs onto it?

  • The main storyline to get to the end boss isn't the hard levels..

  • There is quite possibly going to be a Switch 2 released in 2024. No firm date yet and very little detail, but almost certainly coming (developer kits are with software houses now).

  • Many thanks @ELbowloh and @Soul I think I may be best off just waiting for the next version in that case.

@Soul or @pdlouche tell me more about the RG35? What games come included? And what's the deal with buying/loading new games if desired? She's somewhat a technophobe so if it's too convoluted it won't appeal and I'd need to think about whether I'm willing to be responsible for all that.

  • The RG35 is an OG ROM machine. So it’s retro games across a load of systems.

If she like old sega, Nintendo games, it’s very unlikely it won’t already have the games she played / enjoyed on those systems.

I can’t speak for what @pdlouche already has on there but most people would have flashed garlic OS and the tiny best set which includes emulators and roms from loads of retro systems. There’s a game list on the link which shows just how much is on there.

The OS is super easy to use.

  • Holy moly, I've also just done some googling, and this feels like the perfect thing for her. How did I not know this existed? @pdlouche if dethbeard isn't interested, I definitely am 😁

  • A bit against the consensus but I'd get the switch and sign up to the Switch online and Expansion pack (gives you SNES, Nintendo, N64, Megadrive and a few others).

There's also a bit of something extra that needs tweaking with the Retro ones in my experience and then you discover that maybe the retro games aren't as good as you remember so it's nice to have new stuff too.

  • It comes preloaded with a 64GB card as standard. That’s pretty much every Megadrive, SNES, NES, GG, GB etc. Some are in a weird file order or Chinese language but all the classics short of a few are on there.

As above. Best thing is to get a second microSD and download one of the best sets from online.

Retro Game Corps and similar sites have walkthroughs how to do it all.

Once it’s set up all you do is learn what the ‘menu’ button does and that’s about it.

I haven’t done much more than try a couple extra roms, otherwise it is as it comes new.

There’s a link online to a 128GB SD of games as well, which is mostly extra PSX games.

I was playing Sonic or Tekken 3, and didn’t bother going deep into it. GarlicOS when set up properly has more stuff like portmaster and Pico-8, but you’d need to fiddle with it.

I’d do £50 posted for the forum, since postage is going to cost me at least a fiver, which is about what auctions are selling at without the grip.

  • Happy to step aside, as it's for a good cause.
If you/they ever want to move it on again, let me know!

  • I was wondering how big it is, it looks a bit on the skimpy side. I've only been dipping into it and seem to have cleared most of the map already. Good to hear there's more to come.
