It's my Beater so not that often, kept clean but not spotless, I use MuckOff if that makes any difference.
Honestly I don't understand it myself. I recon 5 diffrent Freewheels in under 3 years.Some new some second hand. Currently the Sunrace, bought new 6 odd months ago I have fitted is slipping and gettting worse on the 14 tooth cog, not so on the bigger ones. The chain shows little or no wear or stretch.
I do ride big ring small cog 99% of the time. But yeah they SHOULD last longer than that.
They're kinda old and obsolete so mostly cheapo stuff, but I've worked on plenty of decades old ones that are still going well. If the internals are failing before you're wearing the teeth then I'd guess you're getting too much water in them, they're not particularly well sealed but riding in the rain shouldn't kill them in 6 months. Do you clean your bike a lot?
