I need some crowd sourced advice on materials for the bullit box.

these guys are who I'm getting to cut the plywood.
I can get 9mm textured phenolic board. looks great, the texture looks ace, would go on the inside of the base so no slip.
However, at least one of my passengers has "get the fuck out of here" sensory issues with materials.

It's smooth on one side textured on the other.
I was thinking base with the texture side up, and then any part that might be touched by a person/skin (so seat bit, inner side, back bit) would all have the texture on the outside.
How challenging is that going to be to look at?
Alternatively, I just get 9mm marine ply which is smooth on both sides.
