SRAM Brake recall

In coordination with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, SRAM LLC will be announcing
a safety recall on indicated aftermarket 12 speed SRAM eTap AXS RED, Force, Rival, and Apex shift-brake levers produced prior
to July 1, 2023. This action involves unsold aftermarket shift-brake levers only; levers on complete bicycles assembled at bicycle
retailers are not involved in this recall.
This bulletin is to inform retailers on actions required as part of a stop sale and rework requirement for involved products. Further
information regarding aftermarket products already sold will come prior to the recall announcement.
INVOLVED PRODUCTS:
All aftermarket 12 speed SRAM eTap AXS RED, Force, Rival, and Apex shift-brake levers produced prior to July 1, 2023 are involved,
a list of involved part numbers can be found on page 2. The production date is located on the package bar code label-products
with a date of WK 26 2023 or earlier should be quarantined for rework prior to sale.
Shift levers on bicycles either assembled/checked prior to delivery or installed by the retailer are not involved in this action.
FIELD ISSUE:
Excess threadlock on the shift-brake lever clamp bolt may result in the clamp not being tightened despite reaching recommended
bolt torque. This may result in a shifter-brake lever which moves on the handlebar. If it moves during riding, it can cause a crash
due to loss of control.
CUSTOMER ACTION:
Retailers should conduct a stock sweep and quarantine all involved products for rework prior to sale. Kit 11.7018.089.000 SHIFTER
CLAMP BOLT KIT 11MM QTY2 is available free of charge to rework any involved in stock products via the SRAM Retailer Support
Portal. Each kit contains 2 bolts and rework indication stickers, a single kit will rework two levers. On confirming any involved
products a retailer should:
1) Enter the appropriate DS ED platform and product serial number as indicated on the package with symptom Z-Recall. Mass
uploads of serial numbers is possible; for further instructions please contact SRAM STS.
2) Replace the existing shift-brake lever clamp bolt with a bolt from the kit, the fixing nut does not require replacement. To replace
the bolt use the following steps:
A) Roll the hood cover back and loosen the lever clamp nut with a 5mm hex until it unthreads from the clamp bolt.
B) Install the replacement bolt and tighten 2 turns to ensure the bolt does not fall off in packaging.
C) The original bolt should be scrapped.
3) When repacking the lever(s) place the supplied green sticker next to the bar code package label. This is required to indicate the
lever has been reworked.
Rework and sale of involved products may be monitored by the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or Health Canada.

"Shifters on complete bikes “assembled or checked prior to delivery or installed by the retailer” are not affected by the recall." just if you installed levers yourself. Sounds like a PICNIC issue.
