  • I'm assuming there's no reason one of these won't work with an Urban Arrow?

    https://custombuilt-ebikes.co.uk/product/ebike-headlight-6v-5w-connects-directly-to-bafang-tongsheng-motors/

Just splice and join the cable and we should be good?

  • guess so. the front light on my UA is a Spanninga Kendo XE 6V-36V. Quite a wide voltage range!

  • This winter I'd like some bar mitts because me and my hands are nesh. Anyone use? Recommendations?

  • I've got some cheap ali express ones you can have if you like (flat bar rather than drops). They're not bad at all if you're riding continuously and can keep some warmth in there. They didn't work for me because I wanted to use them for when I was on a cargo bike at work so stopping and starting constantly and messing about off the bike. If your hands go in cold, they won't warm them up.
I prefer my Sealskinz lobster gloves to be honest. Much more expensive but warmer and easier to live with!

  • Sounds non ideal but yes, most long john cargo bikes, so long as kids are strapped in and have some side protection or are inside a canopy, they are fine, bike usually fine apart from bar end /lever damage and some new decorative speed strikes on the sides of the frame, drive chain and such basically can't touch the ground so don't get damaged!

  • WEight fixed on the mini, its a very good solution (also have two for sale, pm me).
Butchers fork only if your desperate to keep the frame, done a few conversions for people and honestly, a decent set of low rider mounted panniers on your existing fork is better. The butchers fork is a compromise, works, but very floppy handling at low speed and bike will fall over all the time when not being ridden, dutch spring isn't enough to counter it happening either.

  • I've got a couple of spare ports (i have no idea what I'm doing still) how does this plug into the spare ports? Where do i get the plug to fit it?

  • Looking at bike sheds for a benno boost plus a couple of commuters. To go in rear garden.

    At the moment i'm considering:

    • Asgard motorcycle shed
    • A small shipping container (~6ft), which is unlikely to get past the internal planning committee.

Anything else I should be considering?

  • Tyre watch for @amey 's sake. The park sections of the school run are proper slick if I have to go off path to avoid dogs or pedestrians so have ordered a pair of GT 365 for the wet season. Also ordered a pair of studded winter plus from Bikeinn for the inevitable icy week in Jan.

  • I think my current tyres are quite worn, 3k miles .. facebook groups say replace with Schwalbe Pickup.

I am keen to know what those GT365 are like. No way I am changing my tyres THREE times though.

  • Mine have about the same milage but look in really good nick. They're just totally useless on the London clay mud. I have to be ready to bail as soon as I go off the path it's so twitchy. 365s should arrive this week. Just need it to stop raining long enough to fit them.

  • I'm now conflicted, Pickup or 365?
I'm pretty sure I should think about changing over.

  • I was going to go pick up, but the tread just looks like a slightly beefier version of the Big Ben Plus I already have so I doubt will dig into the mud enough. 365 looks gnarlier.

  • seems like the 365 dont do a 24” option

  • If you're looking at 24" tyres, I recommend the benno stock ones. Basically moped tyres. Done 6k km with barely any wear and no punctures.

  • No way I am changing my tyres THREE times though.
I'd have you down as having a wheelset set up with the studded tyres ready to roll in.

  • Good in winter also?

  • Used them last winter and didn't stack it so that was good enough. They do a knobbly version and ice spikes too I think

  • I have been mulling this too

  • I was on a cargo bike at work

What are you wearing to keep dry during the day when it's pissing down, regarding trousers and shoes, please?

  • If it's freezing and absolutely chucking it down I wear some cheap Asos tracksuit bottoms that dry really quickly and don't soak up water, topped with some cheap Decathlon waterproof trousers. I'll throw some thermals on underneath if it's cold enough. I generally don't bother with the waterproof trousers unless it's really extreme weather though, they're very boil in the bag. Usually I'll just wear the tracksuit bottoms because they don't hold water and they dry really quickly if the rain stops or I'm inside for a minute.

Footwear wise I've got a pair of Gore Tex Solomon trainers that are pretty decent paired with some Dexshell waterproof socks. The waterproof socks are a game changer!

  • I’ve made no decision yet.

  • Eugh I’ve been there too. Pretty impossible to stay dry if you’re out all day when it’s also cold it’s pretty miserable.

Also never got on with the waterproof trousers. Poncho (helps protect thighs and has good air flow), big bucket hat, waterproof work boots.. I never cracked the trouser situation but ltc’s idea is good. I’d also have several pairs of gloves as they’d get inevitably soaked especially as you have to take them off quite often. So I’d swap to dry ones throughout the day.

All this complicated by the fact if you had to do a good stint of cycling you’d get very sweaty momentarily if you over dressed.

  • no way! I really ignore this bike, I shouldnt. I just dont think of it as a bike.

  • @MCamb I have lost the bit that screws in Rohloff hub to change oil, can I borrow if you have?
