Which alu, 7 or 6 series? 7 could be welded without heat treating thereafter.
Or do the drill bit option and have a Jubilee clip around the head tube to be doubly sure?

You already know I'm forrin'..
I have no idea how I got that mixed up.
Your verdict, oh great tester? -

I seem to remember it's 7-series but don't have the frame at hand. Friday afternoon countdown at work.
Also, welding is not really an option.
Jubilee clip sounds like proper rat. -

Anything can be fixed if you throw enough money at it. Do you love the frame enough to invest a few hundred pounds in making it safe to use?

This plastic nds cup is from a Shimano bb right? A lower end one so a un55 most likely?
In my jumble of square taper bottom bracket I have quite a few un55s and two of these plastic cups, neither of the plastic cups will fit on any of the un55s I
havetried them on. It’ll fit on a un72 but that would defo have had a metal cup right?I notice that these plastic cups say on them ‘BC 1.37 x 24 73” so should these go with 73mm un55s and would 68mm ones have metal cups? My jumble contains mostly 68mm bottom brackets and only a couple of 73s so it’s possible I only tried it on 68s. I managed to find a few metal cups that are a good fit on the 68mm un55 main bodies.
Also, I noticed that the main body of Shimano bbs marked 68mm and 73mm are the same length. The axle is offset and I presume the nds cup would take care of the extra width in the shell. I always thought they’d be totally different.

I know everyone was eagerly awaiting the outcome of “cassette on hub”.
I took it to the LBS, there was talk of lathes, mentioning of twatting (mostly aimed at me) but ultimately it was persuaded on with thumbs that can fit stubborn tyres without levers.
I am not convinced that I can ever remove it but have purchased a rubber mallet for a soft twatting option.

Don't think that's 55, which comes with aluminium cup? 52 maybe?

Ah ok, that’s good, the ali cups I have put with the 55s might actually be ‘theirs’ then. I’ll need to look through again and see if I have any 52s. I don’t think I do now but probably have at some point in the past.

52 maybe?
BB-UN54 is the plastic NDS cupped contempory of BB-UN55. BB-UN52 seems to have been issued with either plastic or metal, not sure if that's a change over time or a difference between OEM and aftermarket.

How much did it set you back? Always painful, but I wouldn’t repair/ride that. I’d try to get a refund.

Are they the things that are like a clamp on barrel end for a cable? If so, try searching for knarps.
-
• #5523
ooh knarps! thanks!!

Knarps are what Odyssey calls em right?
There’s a similar item for Sturmey drum brakes.
Hold on…
Edit again: I’m looking for the above link I also found this, out of stock at SJS but might be of help in your search, https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brakes/avid-shorty-ultimate-cable-anchor-bolt-black/
