The rollout of Teams in the NHS only happened at the speed it did because of COVID, and they have been adding functions as they go along so the functionality added since go live is massive but the security was basically the same as a Windows password to unlock your desktop machine.
Getting hundreds of thousands of staff online and working remotely (in basically less than a week?) was definitely the priority.

I suppose that is something. Kind of amazed it wasn't switched on on day 1 (of NHS mail being available on the wider Internet). MFA is hardly new, I was using one of these 25 years ago and for much less sensitive data.
