Wrong wheels are being driven.
The right wheels are being driven. The other 2 just happen to also be driven...
This runs F70/R30 unless you turn off ESC then it's 50/50.

I wouldn't be too concerned, but be prepared to fix previous owners lack of maintenance. Could be a series of worn bushings, and diff/gearbox mounts.
Are all the tyres the same? Also, when was the last time the all wheel drive system was serviced?

I want to get a £3k Z4 convertible. am i nuts?
-
• #76130
Nope, had mine for 6 years with no significant problems, if it's on run flats get rid of them instantly.

They seem very cheap - RWD, 2.5l or 3l straight 6 etc etc

Not the visit from the AA I was hoping for last night. He diagnosed my battery as buggered so swapped it for a new one, but that didn't help the not-starting problem. Based on a couple of listens to the attempted start he reckoned the timing chain had snapped/gone and the engine was basically written off, meaning the car was too. Clearly he knows far more about car than I do, but I'm going to need someone to actually diagnose before just selling it for scrap value. Does anyone know a mobile mechanic or garage who would collect in SE23 that they'd recommend? Cheers

sorry dude. that is dark. definitely get another opinion though and I hope someone here can recommend.
if engine fucked but rest of car in good shape would it not be worth seeing if you can get secondhand reconditioned engine? or would that be pushing sunk costs too far.
anyway, fingers crossed for better news.

Thanks man, not the news I was hoping for and will most likely mark my first and last attempt at anything resembling 'bangernomics'. It is a 2010 mk6 golf automatic with 100k on the clock, bought with assistance of a mechanic and the intention was to run it for a year whilst my wife learns to drive (she wanted to practice in a smaller car like her instructors) then sell on for a similar price before buying a bigger car (if you ever visit the dog page, you'll appreciate why this is necessary). Open to anyone's input but my guess is it won't be worth looking to replace the engine in a car I paid £3k for and which is far from pristine in many other regards.
Any recommendations for mobile mechanics or local garages would be amazing. Similarly, if anyone's looking to move on an automatic I could potentially be interested.
Also, I may well have an android head unit to fit a mk6 golf for sale. It definitely didn't break my car 😶

4 x matching Continental Sport 7 which are 2k old - which seemingly retail at about £250 a corner! And relatively fresh discs and pads - which are £1.5k for the Brembos up front.
So here is the twist; I spoke to the previous owner and the issues I am reporting were previously investigated by Volvo without conclusion. They then chose to just live with them!
If this doesn't turn out as a new steering rack and diff related I'm going to be very surprised. -

Having missed my local, reasonably priced, definitely-not-a-lemon Z4 coupe, I am also looking at these and wondering how awful an idea it could be.

We had this diagnosis with a RAV4, the AA said the timing belt had gone and it was scrap. garages wanted to charge a grand just to get to the valves to see if it was borked, then toyota finally confirmed it was a non interference engine, I changed the belt myself and it ran well enough to trade in.
So it might be gone, but equally worth checking. -

Diesel or petrol?
-

Well, to my opinion you are wrong...;)
Prefer the rear drive, with passive steer to front wheel drive Volvo's. And of the time the fords were better than the Volvo at a guess ford had sorted front wheel drive ages before ford. Found the MK3 Mondeo and X type better that the equivalent Volvo. Then X type over Ford.

Is that the TSI? There seems to be an issue with the tensioner more than the chain. But you would think there would be some symptoms before.
How did the AA man diagnose the problem? Did he plug the car into any diagnostic equipment.

Presuming that's the same engine as the 10 Skoda yeti 1.2 tsi auto?
Mine's being worked on now - find out tomorrow I guess. Local mechanics and have been fairly straight on other cars/problems in the past.
Just had to walk 8 miles through a storm (no taxis) to get a rental for tonight. Look like I've fallen in the sea.

The 3 pot engine has that issue. Seems common and didn't someone else have the same issue?
Fingers crossed for a cheap solution.

The 1.0? I have that in a Fabia and I'd prefer to spare myself from this issue if I can. Currently on 40k miles so hopefully not on the immediate horizon...
-
• #76149
No idea, think it is the 1.2 as a few (3) people I indirectly know have had the problem.
Reading up looks like the 1.2 three cylinder has issues with cylinder wear (oil consumption) as well as the timing chain stuff. No mention of the 1.0 but that could have been my search terms.

Anyone have any idea how to turn the bloody rear lights off on a rented Citroen c5x?
Wrong wheels are being driven.
