sorry dude. that is dark. definitely get another opinion though and I hope someone here can recommend.
if engine fucked but rest of car in good shape would it not be worth seeing if you can get secondhand reconditioned engine? or would that be pushing sunk costs too far.
anyway, fingers crossed for better news.

Thanks man, not the news I was hoping for and will most likely mark my first and last attempt at anything resembling 'bangernomics'. It is a 2010 mk6 golf automatic with 100k on the clock, bought with assistance of a mechanic and the intention was to run it for a year whilst my wife learns to drive (she wanted to practice in a smaller car like her instructors) then sell on for a similar price before buying a bigger car (if you ever visit the dog page, you'll appreciate why this is necessary). Open to anyone's input but my guess is it won't be worth looking to replace the engine in a car I paid £3k for and which is far from pristine in many other regards.
Any recommendations for mobile mechanics or local garages would be amazing. Similarly, if anyone's looking to move on an automatic I could potentially be interested.
Also, I may well have an android head unit to fit a mk6 golf for sale. It definitely didn't break my car 😶
Not the visit from the AA I was hoping for last night. He diagnosed my battery as buggered so swapped it for a new one, but that didn't help the not-starting problem. Based on a couple of listens to the attempted start he reckoned the timing chain had snapped/gone and the engine was basically written off, meaning the car was too. Clearly he knows far more about car than I do, but I'm going to need someone to actually diagnose before just selling it for scrap value. Does anyone know a mobile mechanic or garage who would collect in SE23 that they'd recommend? Cheers
