Oooft, glad you and the kids are alright! Sounds like it could have been nasty. The only time I've dropped a cargo bike like that (luckily on a slippery bit of tarmac on a deserted road) I ended up in hospital and unable to walk for quite a while.
Did the driver stop at least? -
• #12728
Sorry to hear your experience. The driver didn't stop, but there were helpful pedestrians on hand.

It was my own fault for not knowing how to ride a bike!
That's brutal, imagine how much of a twat you have to be to cause someone to crash with 2 kids on board and not even stop to check if everyone's ok. Hopefully it's not put the little ones off? -

That is so sick! Needs new everything, but sorely tempted!

Has anyone ridden both an omnium mini and something with a clydesdale fork? I have the latter and I'm not sure it's that much better than a standard porteur rack setup. Considering replacing it, and possibly the neutrino, with a mini, but I should just hold out until we move somewhere with space for a mini-max or some sort of midtail thing. Would be used for commute, groceries, fetching DIY stuff and the occasional tip run.

Anytime the weight is fixed vs turning with fork i think ots nicer to ride.

How is lasting in the rain?
My madjax box is looking fucked after 2 years (lives outside under a rain cover). -
• #12735
If anyone in here knows anyone out there who has time and ability to make me a box that replicates the madjax or even just the "simple" bbx sides and base panel I WOULD BE VERY FUCKING HAPPY TO TALK TO YOU.

Some kind german chap on a forum posted the attached autocad design. I got it made by swordfish CNC cutters in shoredtich including the timber for £168.
Painted it with resin that soaks in to waterproof and then painted with gloss.
The design also includes the pieces to do kids seats and room for the seat belts. I've also amended so the sides can be attached with a ratchet strap and removed for wide loads.

You could give https://www.lfgss.com/profiles/135003/ a try I believe they have a CNC machine and are open for business.

This is great. I've found somewhere more local than Shoreditch so I'll get in touch with them and cost it up.
Will that dxf file let them get straight to work? I might ask them to make it fit the frame (I don't have to squeeze both kids in anymore I think/hope (unless they both miraculously lose 15kg each)) and then is it just glued or glued and screwed together? -

How tall are you dude? If you can get yourself to Bethnal Green we have a mini and 3 mini-maxs built atm. Welcome to come and test ride them with/without weight. Obviously no obligation to go any further than just a test ride.

I also have a small mini in Hoxton you're welcome to test ride. Handling with heavy stuff has been great, except for carrying mates when it gets a bit sketchy. You can also get much more on the platform than you would think

Nice! Is there a canopy design kicking around for that? Or is it a replica of the Madjax one hence their canopy would fit?

I'm trying to get something more all weather toddler suited, when I do then my current ply box would be available :)

If you wanted to get a box made in plastics what would you pick from this list?

I mean I think I’d stick with ply but this place doesn’t do wood (another place might though).
-
• #12745
The thickness needed, those plastics will all's end up quite heavy?
There's a company in Berlin that does their cargo boxes out of structural chamber plate or whatever it's called and then welds them, that makes sense.
Or ply. Also makes sense.
And this seems a general, more complicated stuff CNC place. You need someone with a machine that's for sheet material/furniture. -
• #12746
Yeah I’m sticking with wood. It felt like a “I don’t know what material you want, you read this info we provide and you make a best guess” response.

So far no issues, but I'll have to see after the winter... I'm making a semi permanent roof to go on the arches, out of waterproof canvas (to protect the kids in the rain) which I hope with improve rain protection when under the motorbike cover...

yeah, that .DXF is all they need.
It fits together very snuggly and is designed to make the most out of a sheet of ply. You can screw it together, or like i've done just fix the back, front and bottom and then use a ratchet strap to hold the sides.

I have the name of a couple of places in south london and when they get back to me I’ll stick them in here
Yep, going round a corner and found a car coming on the wrong side of the road in the opposite direction. Had to brake hard and steer left to avoid a collision, which took us down.
