  • Yes they are. Looks like they don’t do the “rust” colour any more though. My son has some primus trails in “fiery coral” (you can just see them at the edge of the picture above) that are very similar.

    And checking - they don’t seem to do that colour either now!

    I occasionally run 5k. Like, once a week, 3 times a month kinda thing.

    Last couple times I seem to have done something to a muscle in my side. In the muffin top/ilium kind of region. Looking at at things online I suspect it’s either internal or external oblique muscle. Not very painful to prod around at but I did a 5k earlier today and it’s quite sore when getting up off the sofa and similar now. Thing is all the stuff about injuring the obliques is talking about rotation and I can’t see how I’ve done that running nor why running would be particularly angering it?

  • Ran my first 50k (trail race) yesterday, would not recommend doing so on fuck all training (longest run in months was 11k) and with minimal running outdoors/in daylight hours (to get used to the heat). The heat was pretty gruesome: 34 degrees, 80% humidity at first (though it got less humid later on). It's hot every day in Singapore but yesterday had a fun extra level of heat.

    The route was gorgeous in places (lovely trail), hard in others (a long stretch climbing over a reservoir in the baking sun) and horrendous in others (a very hilly concrete path along the highway, lots of cars, construction work nearby, no fucking shade). The aid stations were banned from handing out anything other than water but one had some 100plus (isotonic drink - photo is me looking VERY VERY HAPPY to have some 100plus). I drank about 5 litres of water (and the aforementioned 100plus) and didn't do a wee until several hours after the race.

    Injury count: sunburnt neck and arms; friction burn all the way around my middle from my shorts; blisters/former-blisters-now-holes on the soles of my feet.
    Pluses: finished! didn't get chased by any of the monkeys on trail! didn't get bitten by any insects!
    Minuses: my feet fucking hurt! saw a snake!

  • Wow, well I was coming here to reflect on my first ever marathon experience at Dublin City marathon yesterday morning but that’s a bit dull in comparison to a 50km trail race in Singapore!

    So here’s the top line numbers:
    7 weeks of marathon specific training (from a reasonable base of IM70.3 training)
    3:21 finish time
    3:20 chip time (from crossing start line to crossing finish line)
    10 PFH gels consumed (8 regular, 2 caff) - 300g of carbs and 200mg caff
    5 PFH electrolyte capsules
    Rain - lots
    Temperature - perfect
    Injuries - none
    Blisters - 1
    Chafe - under my left armpit

    What an incredible day out, crowd support was insane the whole way round despite the weather!

  • Was targeting 90g/hr of carbs from km 0 which was exactly 10 gels and I had one spare in case it was looking like I’d go over 3:20

  • I tend to be armpit avoidant.

  • Can anyone recommend a waterproof or close to jacket for sweaty runners?
    Not to carry in races so doesn’t need to be fully taped etc, I’m more interested in staying mostly dry but being not too hot.

  • The DHB one recommended on here a few weeks ago has been great so far.

  • I'd look to the OMM kamlikas and the such.

    Their ultralight poncho is excellent for not getting hot, but isn't waterproof.

    I did my first properly wet run on sat in the dhb jacket that was mental cheap a few weeks back, (Only 5 miles, can't compete with the marathoners!) And it held up quite well.

    Didn't get sticky, but there was leaking.

    I'm not sure id pay the £150 they were asking, but at £30 odd it's pretty good.
