It's about reducing e-waste. The people that get new phones every year would just end up with twelfty chargers and cables.
Of course, they didn't really drop the price by the amount that the included charger/cable cost, so there's definitely a money making aspect to it.

Got the new 15 pro at the weekend. Nice and snappy compared to the 12 it was replacing. I think not including a plug (or an adapter to use existing) is a total bump though. I know money making institution in money making shocker but it’s kinda lame.
I got one of the slim profile Anker dual plugs as it’s better anyway
