Thanks. Incomplete work is one thing but having not had access to my bedroom for a some months as it's been filled with tools feels like something. And perhaps it is but it's not the involuntary bailee bit seemingly.
I'm sure I won't get anywhere with small claims as I understand he's in bigger debt already (van repossessed the last day I saw him), behind on his rent etc. He's in a shitty situation but equally the work was a stretch for us and it clearly hasn't paid off.

That said s12(5) does not mention reasonable costs, but costs of sale, so wouldn’t appear to be an avenue through which to reclaim outstanding funds for incomplete work. More so auction listing fees etc.
12(5)(b) would cover costs incurred in respect of failure to collect the goods specifically.
