No pictures of the hack/bodgery, but I’ve just put a steerer, star nut and top cap light mount (as seen in this thread https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16952427/) on a carbon fork. It sticks out quite a bit and in a crash would be the first thing to hit the floor. I was worried about this damaging the fork, so it cut 1/2 way through the m5 bolt that holds it in place. It’s plenty strong enough to hold the light, but hopefully it’ll snap in the event of a smash.
Pic is of another mount on another bike. -

Would the ends of the handlebars/shifters not hit the floor first?

If you lay it down flat to the floor it’s fine, but it’s on an ATB type thing and it wouldn’t take much of a lump to get it to hit first.

Got any aluminium bolts? One of those with your perforated line trick is probably more likely to work as intended.

I've just had a halfrauds light rip the threaded boss out of my fork on a spirited night ride off road.
I had gone for the same mount option...
Handy when you're on the road with a bar bag but turns out not so durable.

Sorry to see but the spacer and top cap solution is inspired.

what is the plan for repair?

Alpkit replaced the fork under warranty no quibble.👌

That will slowly eat its way through your chainstay paint and the steel, leaving it open to rust

Here's how I solved this with a reflector bracket, I think cable ties may cut n rub over time leading the guard to fail at the hole?

Tidy, where would you get those?

Ace, thanks 👍
Also, nagging feeling I might have a couple of Zefal Gizmo's that'd do similar.

DMR version too for a fraction of the price https://www.merlincycles.com/dmr-hinged-clamp-65637.html

My gravel bike has the same thing, I just drilled a hole in the mudguard further up, and it’s not fixed at the bb but does go all the way down

Lost a front wheel nut last night with about 20-odd kms to go at the end of a DIY Audax. Wholly unprepared, I didn't have any zip ties or anything. Nipped into a pub to see what they had, got hold of a few elastic bands. They held and no visit to an emergency dentist was needed.
I first thought the mudguard mount adapter thingys might have helped to work the nut loose, I think it was just user error and I didn't do them up properly 🫠

Jeez. I once stole a nut from a picnic table to replace a lost saddle nut. Sorry table xx
Could be the tapers or threads are knackered.
