Just got the hiplok XL bundled with a d lock. It's seriously heavy but feels like the bike will be there at the end of the day.

Unfortunately seem to have skidded a few flat spots onto rear tire of my long tail. Would like to change before the ice starts. Anyone had luck with schwalbe pickups?

Schwalbe pickups are good 👍

I’ve used them all year round. I live in London though which does get some snow and ice but not loads so ymmv!

Thanks that should work then, they plow the bike paths here so should be good enough.

Almax chains are pretty much equivalent to Pragmasis. If you’re looking at 13mm I’d pick that (or bigger) over 11mm unless weight/transportability is your consideration. Obviously if you go too big it becomes impractical to use when you’re out and about.
Edit: though it looks like they don’t do anything under 16mm anymore.

25mm links!

lol why not cable actuated, this is so crazy

• #12714
Is it so it has the power to lift the bike onto the stand when loaded? or does pneumatic not have the power to do so
-
• #12715
no but there is a vid of it in operation:

in the vid he lifts the stand when riding and stopping at red light. don't think cable actuated would have the required amount of force?
-
• #12717
I cant see the vid but i guess if its an accessibility thing. HAve seen videos of cable actuated kickstands before

Wonder if you can bodge it to work with a cable actuated dropper seatpost

which is what every tern GSD has

I have seen mods using a friction thumb shifter pulling cables

In case you have ever wondered what happens when you crash sideways on a fully loaded cargo bike (Load 75) going at a decent pace, with a 7 year old and a 5 year old buckled in, I'm pleased to report that the kids were unscratched.
My left elbow and hip are not great, but don't seem to be broken. Bike also a bit scratched and bashed but seems ok.

Sounds like you low sided it? Not a fun time.
OK, what chains are we recommending these days?
We had a Pragmasis protector 11mm (https://securityforbikes.com/proddetail.php?prod=P11-x.x) with a noose link which was fine until it got left behind (screaming toddler apparently) and was not there on returning the next day.
I just tried to reorder that but they have stopped making the 11mm chain and only have sizes I don't want left:( I've found the loop very handy for locking up: noose around the stand/railings/lamppost/etc and then D lock through the frame and back wheel.
Looking on sold secure gold minimum (for insurance purposes) I think options are:
(Protector 11 mm: 1.2 m + noose: £77 / 3 kg / Gold)
Protector 13 mm: 1.2 m + noose: £94 / 4 kg / Diamond
Hiplok XL: 1 m: £72 / 5 kg / Diamond
OKG noose: 1.2 m: £58 / 4.7 kg / Gold
