  • Today I decided to open up the ps4 and dust and clean the bits I could see. Went to play doom and now the ps4 is saying overheat. Fuck.

EDIT: Today I took the ps4 power supply out and vacuumed the power supply, the fan and heatsink. Now works fine and less of a jet engine sound from the fans.
Used a proper Miele 2.2kw vacuum and was amazed how much fluff came out of what looked like a clean machine.

Am very behind the curve by playing doom. Not as good as the original pc version.

    Might even watch the film.

  • Does this class as retro gaming? Started fallout 4 last night, after cleaning out my ps4, and played for a couple of hours. Some how set up the look of the bloke and ended up playing as the woman. Wonder if it makes any difference.

How long should a controller battery last?

  • Similar. I've started Bioshock on Switch. We should call it Neo Retro perhaps?
    Old game on new hardware

  • I've just remembered I have had a code to get a free steam key for Starfield. Edit - gone!

I'm not going to get round to it for ages, if at all, and I've decided I don't really like Bethesda RPGs that much.

  • PS4 controller battery life is always a bit contentious, the PS3 one lasted ages between charges, PS4 was much less.
I'd say about 4-6 hours between charges?

If you are getting less, you can replace the battery (I tried dismantling one once and lost a few micro springs and killed my controller, so use caution (I am a ham-fisted idiot))

Also, I "recently" restarted FO4, spent a few dozen hours playing, then got bored.
Still waiting or the PS5 patch, then I'll go back and finish it.

My neo-retro gaming currently is Bloodborne. Never finished it, so put an effort into getting further than any previous attempt (not hard, I am shite and only got to 4 bosses before tapping out) Now I am over half way and not too terrible.

  • Thank you, agree that the PS3 controller lasted ages, compared to the 4. Thank you for info.

  • So pumped for Alan Wake 2 on Friday. First one is the only solo game I've finished thrice, and really enjoyed Control.

  • there's a catch up mode in Fortnite of all things (it's pretty good)

  • I’m generally enjoying starfield but I’m finding the somewhat pedestrian side quests a bit too ‘fantasy with a sci-fi skin’.
Needs more space and more clothing options.

Also kind of funny how detailed the environments are which are then populated by dead-faced mannequins stumbling around.

  • I've gotten more into it after a manflu induced binge. The shipbuilding mechanic is definitely cool although I'd like to see more variety with interiors. I've been doing a bit more planet exploring too which is great for levelling up, but you do start to see repeated facilities. Hopefully Beth will come up with a way to iterate interiors separately further along the line.

Definitely some great random encounter/side missions (but even those with missed potential). Just feels like it was pushed to release a year earlier tha it should.

  • My mum, ex, child and girlfriend are all away the weekend after next and I'm dogsitting from Friday to Sunday, I'll definitely be putting in a few starfield hours in that time, with brief interludes to walk the dog and buy more booze, can't wait.

  • Just found my Ps4 in the cupboard, haven't touched it since we moved in 2.5 years ago, so obviously started a new game of RDR2.

So currently playing RDR2 on Ps4, Starfield on PC and RDR on Switch...

Bit disappointed it's not running on the Fox engine, but very excited regardless

  • Seeing all of the familiar places and movement brings back good memories. I hope they don't fuck it up too much

  • Hope you inner child is enjoying himself.

  • Finished Bloodborne last night, for the 1st time
Unsure if I was OP at the end, but the last few bosses gave me no grief.
    Onto NG+

  • NG+ and the DLC should renew that challenge, the Orphan of KoS is a great boss and well worth progressing to.

  • I don't have the DLC, but I'll add it to my list.
Started NG+ this morning, cleric beast and Father Gascoigne down, much tougher.
I am surprised by the difficulty spike in the NG+
I think I am going to enjoy going straight back into it.

  • Oh yeah do so, I don't know if its just because I didn't want Bloodborne to end or because the DLC was great but it's long been in my mind the best DLC I've bought.
I think it took me about 6 hours to get past the first boss having never played a soulslilke before, but after that I must have played well over 100 hours.
There's also the chalice dungeons and going after Pthumerian Queen.

  • I've kind of bought into the pedestrian-ness of it, I've stopped expecting everything to be a laser battle and quite enjoying persuading people and getting stuff done.

However, I'm starting to encounter the odd bug which is making me nervous.
I remember playing Skyrim and close to completion there being a bug that made a door that you had to get past unopenable - I'm sure they addressed it, but I never started the game again after encountering it.

I've had a couple of mission bugs recently that required you to kill someone but it not registering that the person is dead so you couldn't continue the mission. Others have happened that required restarts to get the mission pointer to update. I'm half expecting the game to brick itself again.

  • I remember that door bug! I got past but don’t remember how - possibly an earlier save.

I don’t mind a bit of a setpiece side quest but I’m really not interested in collecting charity money for people for eg. and the way they start stacking up as you run past people chatting is overwhelming!

  • Aah yes - some of them are pretty bad. I picked one up from a weapon shop in New Atlantis where you have to take a pair of boots from the owner and then take them to another space station, put them in a crate there and.... that was the whole quest!

  • You haven’t done the book collector yet then…

I’ve found as I’ve put more time into it (and become more comfortable with the mechanics) that the gameplay has become more and more emergent and its a lot less daunting to make my own fun.. I’m mis 4os level wise now, I can feel that I am close to the end of the MQ and I am comfortably over-geared thanks to crafting perks and enough looting for legendary rolls.

Does feel like there is a lot of the skill tree ignored. I haven’t dug into what the NG+ mechanic is (although I’m aware it exists.) I am coming to the end of main quest and have (I presume) done all the main quest lines. Still loads of systems I haven’t even started to explore.
