  • This was the side of the tyre. It’s a 29x1.75 Mara plus for scale

  • that's fucked. where in Burgess Park was it if you don't mind me asking?

  • also, glad you're ok.

  • In between the lake and the tunnel under the road. I was heading towards Camberwell.

  • Damn. Glad you're ok, dude. Careful out there, people.

  • I'm usually going through there around 8pm - will deffo avoid now it's dark.
    Hope you're ok @fly

  • Thanks for all the well wishes. Just feel seriously lucky.

  • Is anyone riding with a pepper spray or so? I had with me only during long travelling across Europe and mainly for rabid dogs…

  • Technically a firearm in eyes of the UK law and can potentially carry a heavy sentence if you’re caught with it

  • What about a machete? Or is that only legal if you are under 16?

  • Machetes are fine, no one ever got hurt by a machete

  • I ride with a frame pump. pretty sure it could double as a makeshift baton if required.

  • Scary! Glad you are ok.

  • Usual commute but I finally remembered to report a traffic light that only goes green for cars.

Got a phone call two hours later it will be upgraded this week.

Now maybe that was already planned but result!

  • Really sorry you had to experience that, hope you can get back on your bike soon.

I’ve had a few scary experiences documented here and it took a little while to remember how great riding a bike is.
I’ve cycled through burgess park late and night quite a few times and have always thought the complete lack of lights is pretty sketchy. Even the old canal path feels a bit hemmed in at times. Stay safe out there.

  • Absolutely report this to the police and also kick up a fuss with the safer neighborhood team and your local councillor/MP etc. It's not fucking on at all, but sadly invisible and basically didn't happen unless you do

  • Liz and I rode to the hospital for an ultrasound of my bits today. I’m good just a check up from an op a while ago. We also did a bit of shopping. 22 miles in the sun.
Remember to check your bits people.

  • Hit the wet commute quadruple dumb jackpot today:

    Didn't check forecast
    No mudguards
    Jorts
Stupid suede super absorbent cycling shoes

    Soaked to the bone.

  • A colleague's front wheel slipped on 'a massive dog shit' last week on the way home and he dislocated his shoulder.

  • Off to the Draw Your Own Collisions thread…

    Poor colleague. Htfu, etc.

  • I saw this on my ride to work yesterday.

  • still beats driving though #amirite?

  • And Southeastern trains!

  • Bro, I've lived that life. A rear fender/ rain jacket or poncho and bread bags over socks go a long way. Its a lesson learned...

  • Not a lack of gear, I've got ALL the things! Just winged it today and thought it'd be alright...
