Goodbye gravel bike, hello recumbent

  • In other news, I hit the deck hard on the Koga after one of my shoes unclipped in a sprint. The bike came out surprisingly well (bent derailleur hanger and one broken spoke nipple). I didn't come out so well unfortunately. Mostly abrasions though, so hoping to be back on the bike again soon.

  • Ah shiet, hope you heal up quick!

    What’s the new crabon frame?

  • It's an Open One+

  • Here it is. Just put in on the scale and it comes it a 940 grams. That is about 250 lighter than the Radon. A shame it doens't look nearly as nice as the Radon...

  • Ah shit, get well soon. It’s never nice coming off.

  • Thanks! Hoping to get back on the bike on the coming week.

In the meantime I have started removing the paint from the Open frame. Looking to get a nice 'nude' carbon finish and hoping to lose some weight in the proces.

  • New tires, saddle and bottle cage for the Koga.

  • Removing the paint from the Open frame is taking forever. Front end is almost done now. On to the rest.

  • How light can you go with make a mountainbike tire? Pretty darn light so it seems.

  • It took forever to remove the paint frame the Open One+ frame. The finish still needs some work with polishing, but I am running out of time so this will need to do for now.

  • Just about done. First ride was promising.

  • New tires, because the Furious Fred tires refuse to do turns unless the're flow trails.

  • This would look great without that hideous fork (sorry)

  • Cool bike, don’t even mind the fork. What’s the final weight?

  • Thankfully someone else said it. I’m a big fan of what goes on in this thread. But I cannot condone a lauf.

  • I know the Lauf is somewhat controversial. Which is probably why I like it so much. Also, the fork is why I started this build, so I am keeping it for now. With the right upgrades you can get a suspension fork down to about 1200 grams, but that comes at a hefty price tag.

  • Took some nicer pics of the bike.

  • Fairly pointless purchase, but makes me happy nonetheless.

  • My first race on the Open was also my last. For now anyway. Somehow the chain was lifted on to the chainstay during the (very muddy) race and cut a hole in the chain stay.

  • 😬😬😬

  • Holy shit! Sorry for your loss...

    How quickly did this happen?

  • Holy shit I've never seen that before. I wonder if any of the carbon repair places would attempt it?

  • Looks like your n/w ring isn't letting go of the chain and dragging it up and over the chainstay. Chain and ring definitely compatible?

  • Race was about 45 minutes.

  • My thoughts exactly. Maybe because I am not using a clutch derailleur? I am using a Garbaruk chain ring and they are compatible with just about anything.
