might not work due to the space / decor etc. but I bought a bisley 4 door locker which lives by the back door to store shoes.

it might be too similar, but we got an Ikea Ivar cabinet, kept the back off it, added some little legs and bodged some 2x2 timbers around the edges so it’s deep enough.
still meaning to paint it at some point (and the door frame… and the… etc.etc.), and as you can see - we still have a bit of an situation with shoe overflow…

What's the aversion to something like the link you posted? We have something similar and it works pretty well. Stores plenty of shoes without taking up too much floor space.

bisley 4 door locker
This looks like a great solution.
What's the aversion to something like the link you posted?
I wondered the same thing. Is it that it only does a few shoes? As long as you're aok with a painted finish IKEA stuff infinitely moddable. Just search "[IKEA model name] + hack" for inspiration.

We went with a cut down Billy bookcase just behind the door. Depends how big your feet are though, I'd say anything bigger than an 8 would probably be too big for it.

We have one of these from Futon company. Stores a tonne of shoes and doesn't take up much space at all

I got each of our 3 kids something like this for their shoes - just plywood boxes on wheels with a lid (not these exact ones, as I can't find ours). They double up as stools they sit on to put on their shoes and I like that they can be wheeled around to get them out of the way when needed. Whether they then actually put their stuff in it is a different matter...

Getting triggered from seeing all this footwear on display

This is neat, especially if forming part of a bench...

Are you my wife?

I've found in the past they're not very flexible on shoe size or shape - i.e. big trainers end up being stuffed in at an angle and boots don't fit at all. Maybe I need to find the right one?

Any good ideas for people with lots of CDs?
I've got a load that I did have on shelves in an alcove but now I've moved and the shelves didn't make the cut.Something modular? Nice looking racking?

This has got to be an ebay/charity shop hunt surely?
There must be loads of now redundant CD racks about.

everything I see is good for maybe 30 CDs but I have a lot more than that, maybe 1500.

Or maybe some modular shelves like Elfa. I'm pretty sure you could make something suitable for CDs with them

Tee Books shelving? Gets very expensive for that quantity though!

Probably not available in the UK, very expensive version of that Ikea thing from https://lehni.ch/en.

Double wide one actually nicer.
But as others said, those things basically only fit loafers.

went to see sarah lucas’ Tate exhibition, she purposefully uses chairs that i think middle-brow designery types would be into and derides them, can’t remember the exact word she uses. i guess feminism should be against fancy chairs. not ever being able to afford anything other than cheap, I appreciated her attack on good taste (bourgeois) all the more

this is nice - only works if your shoes aren't gross / filthy though i guess!
found a pic of the locker. you can even see my bike outside so it's still relevant to a cycling forum.

Togo’s are great.
I bought a 2 seater off eBay years ago as a rental stop gap sofa while we were renovating a house. It now lives on the top floor of the house as a cat bed / kids hang out area. Also have a couple of mini Togo chairs for the girls…girls are now teens but still flop around on them when they are hidden away on the top floor with their mates.
