Wanted: OT: Stud detector

Nothing to do with bike tools but does anyone have a detector thing to find a joist in a plasterboard wall?

If so please could I borrow it? Live in Hackney can pick up from most places and return.

the usual method is tapping with a finger along the wall, or up the wall- the lower tone tap reponse is where your joist is, and then tap at that point to pin point the width.

I'm assuming you've done that already.

(Its best to do the tap-tap- tapping when the neighbours are in to annoy the fcuk out of them- they'll love you for it.............)

Can anyone recommend a reliable stud/AC wire detector (through plasterboard) ?
There are loads of them out there but the reviews are so mixed 🤔

Accurate, don’t know. Seems to find stuff behind plasterboard where I’d expect to find it (ie finds wires/pipes where I’d expect them to be) and I haven’t hit anything accidentally yet when using it for the last year or so putting up pictures/hanging curtains etc.

Finding one with 100% positive reviews is about as hit and miss as 🤞

You’re best best for avoiding wires, is by avoiding cable zones. Annoyingly, such practice doesn’t exist for plumbers.

I'm not sure (I doubt) that cable zones regulations were followed here - this is what I have discovered after ripping out fitted kitchen cupboards.
