  • Marina. Maybe a nice twin carb 1800

  • Coventry climax engine

Derived from a fire engine water pump motor but also with some pretty good race car pedigree too. The imp seems to have an interesting history.

  • Totally hateful cars. Rubbish. Hell, get an Avenger as well. Shit then, shit now

  • ISH the imp engine was based on climax...never seen one over revved and would go to 7k easily....pity power peaked around 5.

The problem was people fixing the engine not having a clue.

  • Oi the 1800 tc was less shit and the marina gave many an engine to midget Morris minor...

    Actually Morris minor.

Liked the avenger, got a mk2 that the owner had slowly converted to tiger spec engine the mk2 had the same brakes and bits like the GT. All cos his wife wouldn't let him have a tiger. Liked that car, was bought cheap as no one wanted it. Pity as the car was rot free as the guy really looked after car.

    Hearing aid biege.

  • Ford Anglia? Austin A35?

  • Sorry missed this. Shit, if Beetles are +£5k the market has moved on a bit from where I thought it was. Did think about these a few weeks back but doesn't feel sporty enough. I appreciate anything 40+ years will struggle to be sporty now.

  • Beetles are over priced

  • Finding decent one and Harry potter tax.

A30 and a35 have gone up in value due to the race series.

    A90 countryman?

  • Paudi 924 if it's not too long?

  • But that only took a few seconds to find

  • Good shout, although I suspect too long. My garage is tapered at the back due to the house plot. Will get the tape measure out again.

  • I'm pretty sure that's been up for a long time as I entertained that idea a while back, can probably get a good deal on it.

  • Good day in Tokyo

  • never seen a lotus with panel gaps that good :)

  • Restored innit.

  • Spam alert!
You could always buy my 1932 Fraud roadster, for the genuinely forum friendly price of a very firm will be listed elsewhere for a tidy bit more £5000. Comes with a shit ton of spares and extras. A real ready for next summer project.

  • I need to sell a motorbike first, but quite eye-opening what can be had for around £5k. That thing looks mad. Can imagine weekend trips to the pub would be amazing in it.

  • Clearing out the shed: I've got a few Thule (I think 598) bike racks if anyone's interested at a good price. They're in Bristol

  • What you after? Shoot me a DM. Cheers

  • Proper boring middle age thread. I've got a late 2015 Polo and it's brilliant, but I can also sell it for about what I paid for it (£7500), and home repairs are calling.

Has anyone done the bangernomics thing where they buy a cheap (sub £2000) run-around with the change? Needs to be ULEZ compliant but that's about it, mostly town runs with occasional trips down to Newbury. Any recommends greatly appreciated.

  • I don't think £2,000 is really bangernomics, though it's probably the equivalent of what £300 got you 5 years ago.

£2k feels really risky, you might get the deceased-spec 20k mileage main dealer serviced estate sale car, or you might get sold that story and get something that's been clocked and needs a new engine and gearbox like my friend - and £2k is a lot of sunk cost to overcome.

I'd stick with the Polo unless you're really desperate.

  • I've got a 2010 mk1 Vauxhall Meriva (1.4), 82,000 miles, ULEZ compliant. Have had for 6 months as a stop-gap and saved me a fair bit of money. It's not exactly an engaging drive but there is something liberating about driving (and parking) a shit car you don't give a toss about.

Looking to get rid in the next month or so, yours for £1,400. DM if interested.
