MGOOF : Modern groupset on old frame

  • Previously this bike had a aheadset and a generic carbon fork so forgettable it wouldn't be invited to dinner if it was the last fork on earth.

As I had the original fork and think a quill looks loads better anyway I've fitted those. Columbus SL, Gilco main tubes, fast back seat stays, the seat stays are like Popeye's forearms and bulge noticeably in the middle before narrowing at each end, and cool middle finger lugs, or spearpoint lugs as they are more commonly known :).

10 speed Campag, semi compact 52/36, Zonda's that were hand me downs from my Look, new 3t bars and stem, 28c tyres, fat 3mm bar tape and bike is a super comfortable mile muncher.

And I couldn't resist borrowing the Zipp's from my Look to see what it looks like with some deeper rims, pretty tasty as it happens.

  • Looks perfect with the zipps. Actually took me a while to realise it‘s a Denti - I was fooled by the colour and thought: wow, I‘ve never seen a Gios with those lugs.

  • Nice !! I prefer how it looks without the zipp wheels

  • The quill was the right choice...

  • When are we doing OGONF: Old groupset on a modern frame?

  • Great bike. I really like the Denti panto ladybirds!

  • Did this when I was naive and tasteless: 2018 Ridley Fenix (Tiesj Benoot's) with 10 speed Record from 09/10 ish. Saddle, bar tape and chain length aside, it didn't look too daft

Nice! Is this the one he won Strade Bianche with?!

  • Is that not a MGOMF? 🤧

Shirley needs to be 90s Crabon?

  • Very beautiful! I echo the comments of rim colour suiting the frame perfectly.
    Got a decent side shot?
Groupset is 11-speed? I got the same shape 10-speed shifters but the "button" for shifting on the inside of the lever body is much bigger.

  • This looks great tbh. Other than the tape.

5 arm carbon campag is timeless.

  • I tell myself it was, but unlikely! It came with a circular sticker with a 3 on it, so I'm guessing spare bike. Fair few scratches and dings so it's had some use but no idea when or where.

@greeno - 5-arm Campag remains, but 11-speed Chorus, black saddle and tape too. Record 10-speed went on a Merckx Strada - posted earlier in this thread somewhere. Apologies in advance for spamming this thread with modernity and the shite photo quality:

  • Cool bike!

The bike (including mud) on which he won Strade is on display in Wielermuseum Roeselare, sorry to burst your dream :)

  • Ha, that's good to know though, thanks for sharing.

  • Don't think I ever posted this here in the end... I should ride it more often these days.

  • Sexy

  • That RH hood isn't on right

  • Cuurlasssssssic. #tanhouse

  • Here

Look KG86 frame with complete SRAM Force 1 groupset. Almost complete, the cranks are Red, no way I could find the matching Force.

  • Replacing enormous 90s anatomic bars with modern compact ones made the world of difference to comfort levels on this. I could actually do with about 15mm more reach now but it was a miracle I got these through a stem in the first place so I’m not messing with it. Also switched to a Campag rear skewer which holds the PDWs in place better than the old Hope one ever managed.

  • This is really great. Any idea what it weighs?

  • Never knew All Blacks Fwd had a side hussle.

  • I can’t even imagine how heavy handed his welding would be
