  • He’s gotten a bit hammy, hasn’t he. Dunno, he was friendly and polite when I met him. I guess I was kind of surprised he wasn’t aloof or an asshole at all, he just came in and said “hi, I’m Tom” in that outgoing American way.

  • I've got a copy of this arriving this morning!
    Marr's Guitars

  • Are you allowed to say you're not a Johnny Marr fan? He did write a few nice little pop guitar things but I don't think he's all that. I'm obvs in a tiny minority, I've always hated The Smiths with a vengeance, but mainly because of Morrissey TBF.

  • You're allowed to say anything. But 'hating' The Smiths...?

  • They might have been okay with a different singer. I always liked that Johnny M was a big Stooges and New York Dolls fan, that should've given Morrissey a pass too as he ran The Dolls' and The Cramps' fan clubs at one stage. But no, he was AWFUL.

  • Made the mistake of reading his autobiography a few years before it was well publicised what a flag-nonce he was. So bad...

  • Such a unique guitar player though, no one else really plays like him. It's fair enough if you're not into those sorts of lines and melodies

He's definitely not a cookie cutter guitar hero

  • Morrissey is a fucking nob - I'll grant you that.
But whatever you think of The Smiths, JM has some stunning guitars. There's only room in the book for photos of his 50 favs...

  • Oh, he definitely has good taste in guitars! I saw Little Barrie championing the book on Instagram the other day, my curiosity was well and truly piqued!

  • really push the boat out by saying his best work was on that Modest Mouse album

  • The Smiths are superb and Marr has been superb since too. It's OK to say that, and OK to think Moz is a dickhead. I suspect I have a copy of the book coming, too - far too obvious an almost-birthday present to not have been thought of.

  • The Smiths are wonderful. Marr and Rourke were an absolute unit together, barely a dropped note between them live. Morrissey was a brilliant frontman and lyricist. Everything he said and wrote was massively arch with tongue planted firmly in cheek, a total prankster. I love that he wound people up, and usually the right people hated him. The perfect band IMO.

  • For some strange reason to do with the way my brain works I always group Johnny Marr and Nels Cline into the same mental box in my head...

I think I prefer Nels though to be honest...

  • The book is a thing of beauty! Only skimmed through it so far but there are great photos of some amazing guitars, and so really detailed pics of well used terms, bridges etc. A rare treat!

  • My Jaguar is up on the 'bay if anyone's after one - I'll take some cash off for those On Here. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155839991885

  • Oh that’s sick.
She’s been playing the one I did on stage in Texas this week 👍🏻

  • EBay’s retargeting has been doing me real dirty on this. I love the colour, I just can’t justify so much crossover with my other guitars 😭

  • Nice! It looked so great, I nearly picked up one of those mirror finish billy corgan models a while back, still tempted to

  • AC4TV guy has been ghosting me for a few days, MarketPlace, eh?

But another one has turned up! And it's sixty bux cheaper! Looks like it's been modded already, no longer a closed back. I'm picking it up tomorrow. 🔥😎

And I will be putting that gold Celestion in it for shits and giggles.

  • Were they orginally closed back then? Weird. Couple of screws missing...

    Looks rad.

  • Yeah, I was a bit worried there was something fishy about it so did a quick Le Goog and it's a thing. Opens up the sound apparently.

I really don't need another amp but I can't resist. The tone hunt is real.

  • It's great! It's had a mod done, a capacitor cut switch, three positions, not sure if that means there are multiple caps in there but it cuts out bass frequencies in stages to make it sound less flubby.

Very loud, same size as my Super Champ, I was originally expecting it to be smaller but figured it would be similar sized when I saw it had a 10" speaker in it.

    Love it! Eighty quid!!

  • Rad! I do really want to get a Vox soon.

Had a guitars only band practice last night and realised how much I love my current setup I've been using...

    Les Paul Classic P90
    Roland JC-77
    Line6 HX Effect

It's unconventional by classic standards but it makes some great noises!

  • Rad rad rad. Love the bargain Vox. I really want a fun little amp for living room noodles and would snap up something like that.
