I know there are better-regarded Seiko models out there, but I really like the look of the Type II below.
Any reason I shouldn't go for this over a more expensive King Quartz/Grand Quartz?

No, cheap Seiko quartz from that era have a great feel to them IME.
I've dived into a grand quartz rabbit hole of late - currently considering this :
